I largely agree with Orion here. Nice review.
Though I found the album moderately enjoyable, the uninspired arrangements, often downright awful synthesizer operating, and usually uncreative new battle themes made the experience quite underwhelming overall. The principle highlights for me were Kaoru Wada's orchestrated tracks, the various incarnations of "Passion," "Riku," and the very well done mini-musical (is "Ursula's Revenge" meant to be a man or woman? >_>).
I'd be happy for Shimomura not to return to KHII, though can only hope she wouldn't be replaced by Ishimoto, the operator that destroyed "He's a Pirate," "Reviving Hollow Bastion," "One Winged Angel," and "Scherzo di Notte," doesn't return.
I'd say 3/5 for me too.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
