"I didn't go to the prom..."

Several reasons. There was my general distaste for social events, then there was the fact that it cost a lot of time and money. Another big reason was that the relationship I was in was extremely fuzzy during that time. Despite all that, I still considered going to senior prom for a moment... until I heard stories about how last years prom sucked and the stupid conflicts between those in charge of the coming one. I felt it wasn't even worth it.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

So, did you end up paying or what? I wouldn't think that they could make you pay for a bunch of activities you wouldn't take part in, especially if this is a public school.
