I suppose I could start off with something obscure. One of my favorite OST's, Vagrant Story, is clearly influenced by Elliot Goldenthal (who may, of course, have been influenced by someone else), particularly where the metallic hits and shrill brass whining. This can be heard most prominently in the track "Rosencrantz."

There's also a clear Danny Elfman influence in "Snowfly Forest" and "Undercity," especially the latter, which uses a tinkling, childlike mallet melody as an introduction to a deep, gothic horror sound that's slightly off-kilter.

Neither of these bother me very much, since Sakimoto uses his own style in tandem with the inspiration.

I also seem to remember that a pop song sounds very much like "Elec Man" in MM1, but I don't know the name of the song.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
