I'll heartily second Marathon (not just the first game, but the whole series) and Tass Times in Tone Town. Durandal and Ennio all the way.

Virtually everything in Bungie's back catalog is terrific (and it's all freeware now to boot), so I'll add Pathways into Darkness to the mix. A demo of the game came with our Power Mac, and I spent many youthful hours getting wasted by bizarre things and reading humorous death messages.

Another game that I've never heard much about is Solar Winds. It was loaded on one of the old computers in our lab, but lost when they upgraded. Sort of like Star Control, only far more linear and plot-driven, with some great VGA graphics (for the time) and space combat.

I also used to be a huge fan of the You Don't Know Jack series, and it was a fixture of road trips in the family for a long time. But it seems to have died out, and I see dozens of copies in thrift stores nowadays.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
