Atelier Iris ETERNAL MANA 2 Original Soundtrack - Continent Which Rides The Wind Atelier this and atelier that; the series seems to be very popular these days. I wasn't a fan of the early BSC and SoTW Atelier songs, but these recent ones have been a lot more tuneful and fun--this tune is a case in point. Nice ethnic instruments, a good melody, and a nice interlude (though the music does sound more than a little like Shimomura at times). As with the last atelier track, this is only a single-looper, which is really a shame.
Blue Almanac - Planet Radan A vaguely Kikuta-ish sound, this; it's pretty good once the music finds its footing, though I could really do without the distortion effects in some places. Bubble Symphony - Sorcerer Drunk (Arrange Version) Somebody was drunk here, though I don't think it was the sorcerer. Aside from some silly vocal effects at the beginning, this piece is pure gene-rock. Conker Live and Reloaded Original Soundtrack - The Ditch I always expect something silly from Conker, perhaps because of "Sloprano." This track is anything but--it's a Media-Ventures-style action track, complete with male choir, string hits, and synth effects. Gene-orch, if you will. G5 Project - Transient Blue I've never really been comfortable with the rationale that gets these tracks into the contest, to be perfectly honest. It doesn't help that jazzy lounge music just isn't my thing. Knytt (Game Rip) - Tutorial Music My guess is that the composer wanted players to focus on the tutorial rather than the music; as a result, he considerately wrote two minutes of nothing but dull loops to facilitate their experience. Mahou Shoujou Ai 2 'transformation' Full Arrange Album - pathetic battle arrange 'distortion of the space' I like the piano in this piece quite a bit; it helps add the melody and depth missing from a lot of similar techno-inclined tracks. There are fairly long stretches that are just dull loopery, but the good sections more than make up for this. OutRun 20th Anniversary Box - Speed King I don't even know what OutRun is, and yet it's 20 years old? Man. This sounds very much like something from the Dark Age of Mega Man (MMX-present), with a fairly lax pace and weak melody. An okay week, but lots of tracks that didn't really distinguish themselves. There's nowhere I can't reach.
