My family's dog had some sort of tumor or neurological disorder--she got mean and didn't recognize the family anymore. So I come home from kindergarten one day and the dog's not there--turns out that my mother had gotten her euthanized that afternoon, without telling me. What's worse, she took my then 2-year-old brother with her when she did it.
Even though it the dog's time, I never really forgave my mom for that. Jam it back in, in the dark.
