Film's a mixed bag. It has some decent performers, and a good score by Randy Edelman that's become a fixture of movie trailers, but it lacks dramatic heft and some of the performances (notably the villian) are cringe-inducing.
I suppose it was an icebreaker in that it was a fantasy film with a high budget in the mid-1990's, something rarer than hen's teeth, and it is certainly better from an acting and directing standpoint than many of the early 80's sword-and-sandal epics. But it's not what I'd call a great movie, and certainly not anywhere close to the level of the LoTR flicks.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
