When Mello kidnapped Takada, this forced Mikami to make an extra trip to his bank to get the death note and kill her.
Gevanni saw this as wierd, followed him and that's when they found the real note book. It's unclear if Mello knew all of this, but Lights original plan would of worked flawlessly if Mello hadn't done the kidnapping. EDIT: And thanks for the third OST Chato, been waiting for it for a while. Jam it back in, in the dark.
