May I suggest the little known platformer/ semi-Castlevania-rip-off-that-is-actually-pretty-good game called, Valis. Its a little hard to look Valis in the eyes right now (Thank you Telenet for releasing Valis X and ruining my childhood), but it is still a pretty good game. Its about a school girl who gets a magical sword and has to go kill some monsters.
