Leveling seems the same to me, maybe I'm just not noticing a real difference. Some pokés are easier to battle though thanks to new moves, Geodude for example would rather spam Mud Sport instead of Tackle or Defense Curl. Thus Machop (or Monferno, the evolved form of the fire/fighting starter) can just be all "gonna karate chop u" and win.

Certain Pokémon don't take too much experience to level though, I killed a Lv 10 Geodude and my Budew gained like 4 levels, so yeah. Some things just take a lot of exp (like Bidoof, and I don't really understand why because it's god awful slow) so there is still some grinding to do with certain ones. My Lv 15 Monferno needs 389 EXP to hit Lv 16, while my Lv 10 Bidoof needs 315. Then again Monferno is like 100x more useful than Bidoof (although that gets Hyper Fang later, which may be a result of having such a high EXP requirement). To make more comparisons, my Lv 10 Kricketune and Lv 10 Shinx only need ~130 EXP to hit Lv 11.

I've gotten to the first gym but I haven't bothered going inside (first gym is Rock type), I've been mostly trying to catch an Abra (and failing).

Managed to grab a Psyduck though! I wonder why it's such a rare encounter (2% chance lol)

Also not really surprised people are already trading hacked-in legendaries on Wi-Fi.

Oh yeah, slow walk speed is slow. Although you get Running Shoes early on, it doesn't really make me feel any faster.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

It's faster than normal walking, but for some reason doesn't feel as fast as what I've been used to in previous games.

I just got Abra, it's currently Lv 13, so once it hits 16 I'm hoping someone can do a trade so I get Alakazam :3 already traded w/ Ice for Alakazam loool.

Also beat the first gym leader, Mega Drain > Rock. I wish I knew how to make my Budew happier so it will turn into Roselia already.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Oh man, everyone has this already ;_;?!?
I certainly hope that Ralts is in either version still. I liked the rarity of finding one in Emerald and having to be patient in order to evolve her to a kick-ass Gardevoir eventually. That'll be my sidekick, if it's possible.

Can anyone confirm the 2 vs. 2 functionality? I tried digging around at gfaqs, and it looks as though you can't do 2 vs. 2 battles with 4 people, but you can with 2?
Yes, Ralts are in the beginning routes of the game but not until you acquire the means to find them.... yay for having to return later :P

There is also a male only evolution of Ralts if you have one (male, obviously) and a Dawn stone.

Yeah 2vs2 is only for 2 players. Your battle options are Single: 2 Players, Double: 2 players, Mixed: 2 Players, and Multi: 4 Players.

Single and Double are obvious. Mixed is where you look at the opponent's team, take one of their Pokémon and use it in your team ='D. Multi is just one Poké for each player (A 4 player Single, basically).

Yay I caught a Misdreavus

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

It was an apparent rumour that the game would punish you for changing the date/time in order to get certain things.

But I just acquired Drifloon (Friday Daytime only) last night... so much for that =o

How ya doing, buddy?

Hmm, I'm not too busy, I've just been grinding (thx EXP Share) the Tradeable evolution pokemon so that I can promptly cram them into the box.

So far I've done Machoke -> Machamp and Kadabra -> Alakazam. I didn't do Haunter -> Gengar but I did it for Icetron so I got the pokedex info for it, so not gonna bother :3

Geodude is one level away from becoming a Graveler, then I'm gonna turn that into a Golem.

I'm right outside Gym #3, I'll probably grind my pokemon to their next evolution forms before I fight the leader. Mostly because I want my Staravia to learn Aerial Ace, and then turn it into a Staraptor later. Same w/ Monferno, I want to get that to learn Close Combat and then evolve into Infernape. Luxio into Luxray, etc.

But that's only because there are two pokemon breeders outside the city that have a pokemon that gives almost 1000 experience, and then they have two other pokemon as well. So it's pretty much a level just battling those two. Not counting all the Ponyta and stuff in the grass that gives 300+, or the Chanseys that give 600+

<3 VS. Seeker

Also it seems the starter pokemon are really crappy this time around. My Ponyta and Machamp are much stronger than my Monferno, except my Monferno has almost double the stats of Ponyta & Machamp (for ATT and SP ATT anyway). Probably because it doesn't learn any good moves until it's about to evolve into Infernape.

Furthermore, hatching that Happiny was probably the most exciting thing ever. I've been debating on using the stone I found in the Zui Ruins.. or somewhere. Basically the stone to turn Happiny into Chansey. Not sure if there is another poke that uses that stone.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Hold on, by item to be able to find Ralts, do you mean the National Pokedex ;_;? Sort of eliminates the point, and I'll need to find another cute psychic to replace it early on.
Sadly yes, you need PokéRadar + National Dex to find them :E

Also, the GTS (Global Trade System) is awesome. Japan is very kind. I wanted the starters but had nothing to offer, so I simply put up some joke poké for fun (like a Lv. 16 Zubat), and they gave me a Piplup for it Not just any Piplup though, a Lv. 1 hatched Piplup with expert movesets already.

Very awesome.

Abra is a "uncommon" pokemon that is roaming around route 203. There is also a NPC that will trade Abra for Machop.

As far as decent fires... the ONLY fire I've seen is Ponyta. Ponyta and the starter.

Neither of which are really decent =/

There are a ton of Ponyta from Routes 206, 210-South, 211, 214 & 215. I leveled my Geodude off of them :P

No good moves though (fire ones anyway)

Also the new Safari Zone sucks dick. What is up with this marsh crap, I sink every few steps.

Not too bad though I guess, if I sink in the right location where the pokemon I want is in I can infinitely stay in the SF until it comes up.

Best way to get Abra is to Taunt it, which will force it to stay around for 2-3 turns. Probably not long enough to get things done but it helps.

I don't really intend on battling anyone, but if there's a particular Pearl creature you are looking for, I don't mind grabbing one (except Palkia lol).

4 Gyms done, but I couldn't progress because I did it at like 2AM so the person I am looking for is not awake at the time. Or maybe I'm not supposed to go hunt him down who knows. I'll find out later today. Might as well use the time though to train up my Alakazam for the 5th gym, although I thought about using Dark type, I don't have one. Well I got a Murkrow from Icetron but the Darkness moves take a while to get... and the evolved form gets superior moves (but no darkness stone at that point in time unless you have some Lv 31-100 pokemon with PickUp and get lucky - but that's alot of Pachirisu's to get, and hope they carry that ability before you train them :P).

The honey I smothered on like 5 trees should be picking up some creatures soon, really hoping for female Combee (12.5% what) and Munchlax.

Off to class I go, hopefully that stupid person I need to find will show up, because I can't go to the 5th Gym until I'm done with him -_-

Argh. I wish Game Freak would stop making new HMs. You only needed to use Waterfall a total of like, 2-3 times in the entire game. What was the whole point of that? Now I need more HM slaves for HMs that I'm only going to use once. Booo.
I don't know about Rock Climb, but it seems Defog is totally optional. All it does is well... clear fog. You can still go wherever without having to clear it, you just have really crappy hit rates ='D

Speaking of Gyarados, has it always been Water/Flying? I don't even remember anymore =/

Also I figured out what was wrong! It turns out somehow the event got reset, so I had to start it all over again. Oh well, I got to beat up the rival again so it's all good. Right outside the 5th Gym, with super powered Alakazam in hand :3

I met some guy while I was on campus, he was very enthusiastic about my having the game; and wanted me to join the anime club (I didn't even know we had one...) but I declined for now. We did a quick trade because he wanted an Alakazam & Machamp, so we swapped to get Kazam then swapped back (since he wanted his psychic buddy). He seemed pretty cool (although a bit dissatisfied with me picking the girl)

Ah okay, since I never used one I didn't know any better :P

Anyone still using their starter? I pretty much ditched mine... just keep it around for random battles against Steel types...

That Feebas thing sucks, I hope there's a list of the places to look, and it's not just any pond in the world or something because I would just ask for one over GTS in that case .-.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Sorry I didn't update quick enough. You can find them in Mt. Coronet. I think I might end up asking for one over GTS as well. That is just too tedious for my liking.
Ew, Mt. Coronet -_-

Definitely gonna GTS one then.

That can't be right... Icetron has changed his image like 5 times <_<

Well I've registered nearly everyone on the list, for some odd reason I can't do Lacerta's.

BTW Who here has experimented with the Underground?
I think somehow I typed a wrong number due to slip of hand o_o

I corrected it on the wiki.

Also I messed with underground a bit, if you spend a lot of time you can find thunderstones and crap there... but the fact that the real features (capture the flag for a new trainer card and chattin' up 32 people to get a new pokemon) are local wifi only means I can't do them :E

You can also use EXP Share to train EVs if you are fighting significantly harder pokemon for a certain EV, I think?

I really didn't bother with it ever since Red/Blue because even if I EV trained the pokemon I wanted to, due to the way moves functioned it still wouldn't be enough to help them.

Now though, I might just fiddle with it :E

Also wow just found a female Combee. <3 Honey Trees.

You can always look at Serebii.net

... when it's not lagging

Usually at the nocturnal hours it is running great (all the people are sleeping?), so you can probably check stuff then >_>

If I'm not mistaken, Abra learns nothing aside from Teleport until you evolve it into Kadabra, then it learns Confusion at that level. I guess if you hold off, you won't have a chance to learn it (move relearner maybe? but he costs a heart scale so f him).

Yeah, it should be the same way I think:

1 (Coal Badge) - Rock Smash
2 (Forest Badge) - Cut / Traded pkmn obey up to Lv 30
3 (Cobble Badge) - Fly
4 (Fen Badge) - Defog / Traded pkmn obey up to Lv 50
5 (Relic Badge) - Surf
6 (Mine Badge) - Strength / Traded pkmn obey up to Lv 70
7 (Icicle Badge) - Rock Climb
8 (Beacon Badge) - Waterfall / Traded pkmn will always obey

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Yeah, the pokemon with the EXP Share will earvn EVs along with the pokemon that are actually battling, though they only get half that value. For example, beating a Magneton nets you 2 Sp. Att EVs. With that setup, the fighter gets 2 and the one sharing gets 1 EV. If the one doing the brawling has a Macho Brace on, he gains 4 EVs from Magneton (earning him 1 Sp. Att point per Magneton) and the other gets 2 EVs.

Though I agree with you all, that this kind of training really didn't have much of a point before. Now though, you have a means of easily going online and taking on other folks and the above would give you an edge. Congrats on the Combee, though. Vespiquen (sp?) has some nice exclusive moves (the Order line).
Actually according to Serebii the pokemon w/ EXP Share will not get half EVs >_>

Bleh on my way to 7th Gym. The trainers in this game are such assholes :P

One question. I got this Friendly/Happ/whatever app for the Tech, and I have no clue how it works. All I see are my Pokémon floating around and bumping into each other...
Tap & Hold, if it runs away it hates you. If it does the cry and sits there, it doesn't hate you. If 1 heart appears it likes you a little, 1 big heart, likes you a bit more, 2 little hearts, it likes you a lot, 2 big hearts, it loves you.

I think.

At the risk of sounding absentminded, How does one go about asking for an egg through GTS? I don't remember seeing that option.
I think he means using WFC to trade for eggs. Since a lot of forums are trading eggs or old version pokemon for things.

Has anyone had much luck with the Underground? I've been trying my hand at it, but can't figure the darn thing out. I see yellow dots occasionally, but whenever I get near them, my red dot obscures them and makes it impossible to find anything. =\

Anyone have some tips for this?
