I think that Raiden has the potential to be a likeable character in the future. My biggest problem with him isn't the fact that he stole Snake's spotlight in MGS2 and really let the fans down, and it isn't his girlish figure, it's all that whinning he does! Raiden's complete lack of comprehension of a situation is just annoying. Get rid of that and his character improves by a whole 50%. Make him a little darker and maybe even a little psychotic, plus add the fact that he'll be a father in MGS4 (which leaves him subject to getting extremely pissed off at any threat to his child. Pissed off = more bad ass) and the fact that he'll be under Snake's wing in MGS4 and you've got a likeable character.

Whatever you think about Raiden, you can't say that he's a complete pussy, I mean he took down 25 Metal Gears in a row (in extreme anyways), something that even Snake has never done. Even if you hate Raiden, at least cut him some slack because MGS4 is all about Snake and you'll never *have* to play as him again (though multiplayer Metal Gear will likely include him). The worst thing you have to do is sit there and listen to some of his dialogue in 4, which will be less whinny and more to business than 2 ever was. Because Raiden was mearly a device to tell a good story in MGS2, I neither like him nor dislike him. I've learned to accept him because without him MGS2 wouldn't be a postmodern masterpiece, it would be just another action game.
I felt ambivalent about Raiden, too. He never really got on my nerves and I didn't mind playing as him. Probably for some people playing as an whiny androgyn hit a little too close to home for them, but it never really offended me. He was a rookie after all. The REAL bitch was Rose who kept calling you and asking if you knew what day it was and how you felt. That was annoying.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

They better reveal some story elements in the E3 trailer. The TGS one was, as cool as it looked, rather pointless. I would love to also see some characters besides Ocelot and Snake in the trailer, like Meryl and Raiden. Seeing them in high resolution will be most satisfying. I also want to see how Kojima has made Raiden cool.

So there's my piece.

Real actors in chroma..this sucks, i pity actors imagining virtua worlds while shooting because all they have is green chroma around them...lol.

Infact gaming would expand their imagination inorder to help them envision virtual worlds more clearly.

Above all games can be anything films can be, but also are INTERACTIVE.

This interaction kills other mediums to death.

StevenSpiel.,jhonwoo and now james cameron all have jumped into game direction...why?:eyebrow:
Interaction does give gaming an edge, but no one is utilizing this feature to its fullest. Most of the interaction comes in the form of gauntlets of enemies that you go through in between cutscenes. This is still fun to me, mind you, but if gaming wants to transcend this, they have to make the interaction more compelling.

Stories also have to be better, also. Gaming hasn't had what can be called a Gone With the Wind or a Citizen Kane yet, just alot of the "alien invasion" or "kill bad guy" variety. If people are to take gaming seriously, gaming also has to take itself seriously. So as it stands, gaming will not top movies in terms of artisitic merit.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Raiden looks cool. His exoskeleton trumps all others. But his movements were so unrealistic and animeish.

If only the PS3's controller was as capable as the Wii's, we could be slicing down Metal Gears playing as Raiden. That would be the only instance where people would choose to play as Raiden over Snake. Unless Snake himself carried a sword.

I was speaking idiomatically.

What about Liquid Ocelot? Is Liquid in complete control of Ocelot now, or does he still only appear when Snake's around?

It might be the Boss's grave. The way that particular shot looked was like the scen where Big Boss sautes the Boss's grave at the end of MGS3.

I'm betting someone dies in MGS4 and it's his/her grave--maybe Meryl's or Raiden's. Or maybe he's paying a tribute to the fallen Grey Fox. Who knows.
The grave scene is before the main events, as Campbell and Otacon come to brief Snake on what's happening in the Middle East. So if it was someone who died in MGS4, we'd have known him for like two minutes before someone offed him.

One thing I noticed from Raiden after having him on my desktop for over a weak is that his vsior is attached to his skull. perhaps he ha some cyberneic enhancements in addition to his exoskeleton.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
