When I went to Japan, and it finally hit me. When I got off the plane after my nice long 12 or however many hours flight and while I was on the bullet train it still all felt fairly normal, but then when I exited Kyoto Station, the Kyoto Tower was standing right in front of me and the masses of taxi ranks, and I could just about glimpse the entrance to the ryokan we were staying in, and it all just sunk in that I was actually in Japan. I'm pretty sure I must've just stood like the gaping tourist I was for about 10,15 minutes, trying to believe I was there
