I believe you can slow down the speed of the DVD by stepping down from UDMA-33 to something slower such as UDMA 1/0 or PIO mode. Click Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers > [your parallel ATA controller]. Look at both the primary and secondary tab to locate your DVD-ROM drive; once you have found it, uncheck "Let BIOS select transfer mode" and select another transfer mode slower than UDMA-33. PIO mode restricts speeds to just 9 MiB/s.
Alternatively, you can just purchase another new DVD-ROM drive; they are relatively inexpensive now and could save effort and time. There is no guarantee the drive will continue to function at a slower speed. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
