Well, CCCP is a minimal filter pack that is fine tuned with the two bundled players; so its components are all configured to harmoniously work with each other. It is very different from abominations such as Nino's pack or the K-Lite Codec Pack. If you'd rather not install a filter pack, you can always download and install components separately:
ffdshow to play back almost everything, Haali's Splitter to play back mkv, avi, mp4 and ogm containers, and VSFilter to display subtitles.
To play back the media on a stand alone DVD player, you will need to convert the file to MPEG-2 then author it onto a DVD. Look on sites such as
VideoHelp and
Doom9 for tutorials on your video format. (Could you tell us what it us?) Bear in mind the conversion will drastically reduce quality; since your source is already compressed, transcoding will probably result in nasty artifacts.
