As a kid I would imagine falling into deep space like the intro scene the old Buck Rogers tv show.
I've been big on meditation. Close my eyes, slow down my heart rate, focus on ambient sensations. Level 2 sleep is required when the environment is noisy. Close my eyes, slow down my heart rate, envision a place of deep dark comfort, focus on ambient sensations. Level 3 "delta" sleep is required when I have only a couple hours to sleep then wake up. Set mental awareness of time, close my eyes, breath a set pace, imagine energy replenishment. When all my methods fail and my energy level is too high for what I consider normal for bed time, I know I need to pray and praise God. After some time with Him I sleep like a baby. Jam it back in, in the dark.
