Korgoth is outrageously hilarious. Ultraviolence has never been this funny.
The question is, though, how much material can you draw out for how many episodes? There's only so much Swords and Sworcery crap you can make fun of. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
There's not a whole lot of shock value for people that are familiar with those godawful 80's barbarian movies like Conan (which was awesome), Krull, etc., etc., etc. Things like that man-eating tree are par for the course for D&D players and anybody who's seen Beastmaster.
This show is a parody, and it's only going to work for people that understand the source material. I mean, for God's sake, consider this image from the show's intro sequence: ![]() This is obviously a parody of Swords and Sworcery artists like Boris Vallejo. A lot of the jokes, though, even on their own I thought were priceless. Hargon: A new sign!? What's the matter with the old one!? Doorman: He said they mispelled something on it. Sign Reads: "The Whore's Nipple Bar & Grille" Hargon: Hmm, what'd they misspell? Doorman: Well, the name of the bar is the Dragon's Kneecap. Always get a kick out of that one. There's definitely not going to be a social commentary with this one. Then again, there's not a social commentary with The Venture Brothers and look at how much of a hit that is. I really don't know. It depends really on how talented Aaron Springer and his writers are. I mean, Sergio Aragonne's Groo lasted for quite a while, and it was based on similar Swords and Sworcery elements. Groo, though, was also kid friendly, cleavage and junk in the trunk aside. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
