So Germany's Gonna Ban Scientology

news story to confirm I'm not making this shit up

The question is should they? Freedom of speech and religion is something that at least Americans hold dear, and moves to ban an ideology can leave a bad taste.

As far as I'm concerned, so long as the "banning" doesn't equate to a free speech violation and only bars Scientology from being recognized as a religion then I'm all for it. Scientology is basically a scam anyways, and our decision to recognize it in the 90's has definitely been one of the most retarded.

It's like Mormonism, only they didn't have time to make their own state.

Also talk about how much you hate Scientology if you're so inclined.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

If it was really a religion, I'd be opposed. But it's not. It's a typical pyramid scheme scam advertised by a bunch of celebrities. Mormons don't require financial contributions to get in or learn the rules of their religion.
Joseph Smith was like the L. Ron Hubbard of his day, though. Hieing to Kolob and all.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

It should be noted that the Germans aren't considering a ban on Scientology because of the religion, but for the reasons that Styphon has pointed out.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

YouTube Video

not basically Christian in any way

Oh but they do care. See, Germany is a First World nation, so their reviewing over whether Scientology should be banned creates bad press for Scientologists. They have the most gigantic victim mentality in the history of forever, and enough money to sue the pants off of anybody who even so much as mentions it.

Because an anti-mormon propoganda film from the 70's is clearly the authority on the subject.
Plus also it's basically true.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Except that it's filled with good, old-fashioned Christian moralizing.
Despite what you and Starman may think, there's no way to make Mormonism sound less crazy. Sorry fellas.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

No, it's really not. The idea of God in Christian mythology is much more vague and beyond perception than Mormon Jesus from Kolob.

At the very least Christianity did not practice institutional racism. Of course, the Mormons stopped that once the President had a visitation telling him it was ok for blacks to be priests. After centuries of protestant development, Joseph Smith starts a cult about Space Jesus that sets up a new pope.
