I had a thread following the progress of this anime a while back.

Anyway... Now that I've seen the first episode I can say that my expectations were more than exceeded. The story is as concealed as possible and the animation is top notch. As if that wasn't enough, Det. Lil Meier is one assertive and sexy figure; that alone is good enough to keep me watching this.

I can't wait until episode 2.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I see that most are already kind of griping about how slowly this anime is developing. I understand where this is coming from though; the story is VERY underdeveloped at this point and the plot already seems to be spread too thin over so much area...

I'm hoping these assumptions will ring false in the future because the potential for story, plot and character development are already laid out in plain view. Now it only has to HAPPEN.

How ya doing, buddy?

Is there a group that's specifically dedicated to sub this yet?

This is really the only thing I hate about pre-licensed properties... We all get screwed in the end... :/

Goddamnit! This is getting REALLY good. I swear this show is becoming like those quarter-booth stripper joints, only I run out of quarters and I'm left blue-balled everytime.

I just watched Ep. 4

Spoiler:
I'm sorry guys... I still have yet to figure out what the "talking statues" symbolize. I mean, are they supposed to be the "highest power"?

I stopped keeping up with this after Ep. 4 due mainly to time issues. When I wasn't dicking around here on my off hours I was out doing other things. Today I took the day off to watch the Mexico vs. Angola match and when the rest of the day got boring, I began and just finished watching the last 6 episodes back to back.

I WANT MORE!

Spoiler:
I'm still not seeing the significance of the Proxies themselves in the storyline. Are they all tied in with a different element or are they angels of their domain and hence why they speak of humans as lower lifeforms?

The story develops so slowly but it's like biting into a multi-flavored cake with this one. Each layer reveals a new twist and a new (if I may be allowed a small nod to the series here) reson d'etre.

MOAR!

Spoiler:
I wonder what's gonna go down with Monad, but Ergo seems to be filling the role quite nicely, I must say. As for the behemoth Proxy that just showed up, I have no idea what his purpose is yet, but hopefully Iggy will figure that one out. After all, he's being sent back to the homeland.

I'm starting to get the feeling that Real (or Lil, as I knew her before) is playing a somewhat more sinister role than she leads on. I also think her name must have a "royal" entendre attached to it, but this is just speculation on my behalf and has no relevance to the story whatsoever.

Carry on .

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I just watched episodes 13 and 14.

Spoiler:
That Millais angle in ep. 14 was fucking genius. Real in the river with the Ophelia pose was surreal. Although I gotta say, the episode confused me from top to bottom until I realized that they were dealing with a shapeshifter.

That wasn't what confused me...
Spoiler:
What confused me was how there were 2 Vincents and 2 Reals at once. Even after he announced himself and what had happened in the city I was still kind of muddled on this. It was only at the end of the episode that Vincent was talking to himself that he said "that proxy can change form" that it hit me. THAT MOTHERFUCKER WAS A SHAPESHIFTER!

Seriously... I feel so stupid sometimes.

FINALLY! A light at the end of the tunnel. I gotta say though, as much as this series was a chore to watch because of the incosistency of the episodes, it was a really awesome little series.

So much condensed into these last 2 episodes it was almost overwhelming.

Spoiler:
Monad returning as the angel of life (At least that's what I gather from this) was a fucking awesome twist.

I gotta say though... In retrospect, this story was pretty short and could have been condensed into a 13-episode run like Hellsing was. There were a ton of filler episodes that were tangents of the story as opposed to focused on the overall aspect of "life after god"; even if that was an awesome concept to begin with.

Can't complain though, it was an awesome series even if it had its boring stretches. At least it's not like Bleach.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Yeah, but don't you think they could have driven their point without the drawn-out length? Episodes like "Who Wants To Be On Jeopardy...", "Ophelia" and "Eternal Smile" were entertaining, yes. But they served no direct purpose to the main storyline.

Quote:
Besides, who doesn't like to get to know the characters better? One of the best episodes was the one when they were stuck on the boat for a month and Real, Vince, and Pino bonded.
See, I have no problem with getting to know the MAIN characters. I also think that "Busy Doing Nothing" was one of the best episodes in the series, but this goes back to what I said about the story. The events in this could easily have been interpolated into another episode and all would have been well.

Like I said, Hellsing had an INCREDIBLE run at 13 episodes and kicked some serious ass and kept the story at a great rate. This followed the same arc but drew it out over 23 episodes. I guess I do see where you guys are coming from too; the series was still awesome. I just think that focusing the strength of the story into a more dense story arc would have made an already winning story a goddamn classic.

I didn't say they were of no use. I just said that all the foreshadowing and character development could have been done in any episodes. I'm not saying the whole series wasn't entertaining, I'm just saying...
