Even though I'm a fag for the Halo series, I still think that the best game that I played this year was Bioshock. No other game that I can recall in recent years just got it together so well in all departments and delivered a dark, grimy, moist-to-the-touch experience the way that game did. The feel of the controls, the look and the music were all just a superlative achievement on nearly every level.
My second favorite would be Super Mario Galaxy for reasons I'm sure many of you already agree with. Additional Spam:
