So...I am thinking of getting a PSP.
Question is, I am still unclear about the differences between the old and new PSPs.
Also, as I was reading a few posts, it seems that some software/homebrew stuff/etc only works on one type, and not the other?

If i were you, I'd go to craigslist and find a guy selling a modded slim PSP. there should be a guy who thinks he can make money by selling modded psps so it shouldn't be too hard to find.
It's pretty hard to mod a slim psp without a modded fat psp. So unless you have a friend who has a modded psp than you can get them to help you out.
But yeah, definately get a slim TV-out FTW.
About the homebrew, yeah you can't really run homebrew off a slim psp but there aren't that many must have homebrew aps aside from Pandora anyways.
PSX and PSP games run fine off the card.
