Sounds like VI is the one you want. Anthology version sucks though. The laggy cursor during battle made me opt for my SNES cartridge again.

For me, IV through VII is the peak of the series, with VI being my personal favorite. I'm mostly indifferent towards VIII, IX, and X, though I still think you should try them for yourself.

Tactics isn't a main installment of the series but it's awesome and it excels in the three areas you mention as well. Just be prepared for a different style of gameplay since it's an SRPG.
