Dogs all the way. I don't trust cats and I somehow always manage to get cut by those damn claws. I read an article once that pretty much debunked the idea that cats are smarter than dogs, so I don't consider that baseless little knock against dogs anymore. One of the things the writer talked about was how social skills are also a measurement of intelligence, and dogs are obviously more sociable and trainable than cats, so I'm sure that they're also reasonably intelligent as far as domesticated animals go.

I will say that I might prefer for my immediate neighbors to own cats instead, because I hate it when dogs bark at night while I'm trying to sleep. I started to hate that dog which used to reside next door. The bastard was paranoid or something and would let out these odd shrieking barks at night. Fortunately, my dog is the coolest.
