Playstation 3 Delay Confirmed Officially
Quote:
Sony's CEO Howard Stringer told an interviewer from Variety Magazine that the PS3 has been "officially" delayed until later this year due to complications with the chipset. According to the article, the PlayStation 3 will hit the market sometime around the holiday season, and it could possibly take then even longer to make it to the US.

"Sony’s new PlayStation 3 was widely expected to be introduced this spring, but will be delayed as the company fine-tunes the chips that are crucial to the success of the console’s Blu-ray function. The PlayStation 3 —- which is being called “the poor man’s Blue-ray” —- is vital to Sony’s plans because it plays Blu-ray discs as well as videogames.

Sony will roll out the PS3 by year end, in time for the holidays. If PS3 “delivers what everyone thinks it will, the game is up,” Stringer boasts.

Blu-ray is the system developed by Sony to view next-generation high-definition DVDs. Rival format HD DVD is championed by Toshiba. Microsoft recently joined the HD DVD camp, a move that came as its Xbox 360 videogame console is trying to grab market share from PlayStation, the industry leader."

Inside the PS3's Operating System
Quote:
We just reported that the PS3 "might" be delayed. Not in a good mood? Well, sorry guys, but there might be another problem. This time, it's something to do with the PS3's Operating System. You know, those things which take care of the hardware and software. For example, Windows XP for the PC.

First, let me give you a little background info about the Xbox 360's OS :

The OS runs continually in the background. It doesn't matter if you're playing a game or watching a movie. The operating system stays in the background continuously interfacing with the hardware and software.

While it might suck-up a bit of the resources (more on that later), it helps immensely. It's easier to make online play. The whole interface becomes solid and one.
Features like Voice Chat, Custom Music, Alerts in all games, regardless whether the game-devs decide to put it or not.
Now, about the processing power which it uses to do this :

32mb of the 512mb of available GDDR3 RAM3% CPU time on Core1 and Core2 (nothing is reserved on Core0)In the case of the Xbox360, this cost is approximately 2% of total CPU time and 6.25% of the Xbox360's total available RAM. Balancing these out, one could argue that MS has removed a total of 4% of the Xbox360's total available system power in order to provide these features and more which were not mentioned. They also left room, CPU and RAM wise, for future features. In other words, they are not entirely using all of the CPU Time and RAM that they have reserved to date.

It is well known that the PS3 will be having 7 SPEs on the Cell Processor. And the PS3 will also be having a continuous running OS like the Xbox 360. Its features will be pretty similar to the Xbox 360's OS too.

Now for some bad news, the PS3's OS will be using resources in the following manner :

32mb of the 256mb of available GDDR3 memory off the RSX chip.64mb of the 256mb of available XDR memory off the Cell CPU1 SPE of 7 constantly reserved.1 SPE of 7 able to be "taken" by the OS at a moments notice (games have to give it up if requested)Now if we use the Xbox 360's example, then the PS3's OS is using 25% of the available Cores on the CPU and 18.75% of the available RAM in the system. Balancing these out, one could argue that Sony has removed a total of 23% of the available system power in the PS3 for these features as well as others that are not mentioned here or will be added in future updates to the PS3 Operation System.

So what does that mean for the PS3 ? Well, for starters, the Operating System will be using more resources when compared the 360's. This means that even though the PS3 might be more powerful than the 360, it's using more resources for processing things other than the game itself. While it is certain that you
WTF!!! 25% for OS and 75% for games.and they call PS3 is power pc.:juggler:

In their gaming division to launch the PS3! Quite the committment. The rest of the company is doing okay, the Bravia line is doing well.

Quote:
"TOKYO, April 27 (Reuters) - Sony Corp. (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Thursday that it expected its game division to post a loss of about 100 billion yen in the current business year, hit by start-up costs for its PlayStation 3 game machine.

I think Kutaragi drink something when say that

Kutaragi: PlayStation 3 is "too cheap"

Ken KutaragiIn a disturbing twist, Ken Kutaragi has gone on record stating that the PlayStation 3's $600 price tag is "too cheap." The SCE president has again compared the forthcoming console to a fine dining experience. His argument is that no one calls into question the price differential between some slop at the cafeteria and a meal at an upscale restaurant. From his (deep pockets) point of view, "If you can have an amazing experience, we believe price is not a problem."

Does Sony's braggadocio excite anyone? Because it's turning us off.

After a paltry E3 showing - from a games perspective - it's hard to see the PS3 as anything more than a Trojan horse for sneaking (relatively) cheap Blu-ray devices into consumers' homes. The PlayStation brand is being pimped, and gamers are paying for it, literally. It's ridiculous for Kutaragi to suggest that his company is doing us a favor by launching the PS3 for $600. It's also disrespectful. Who else gets the feeling that Sony is looking down on us?

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

PS3 Online (Including Gaming) Is Free "offical"
Quote:
One of the latest PlayStation 3 rumors to make the rounds over the past couple of days was in regard to "free" online gameplay, or the apparent lack thereof. Even though Sony reps at both the Game Developers Conference and the E3 stated otherwise, due to the fact that Sony's E3 conference powerpoint presentation didn't explicitly state the fact, some sites jumped to conclusions. Well it just isn't true.

This morning, SCEA's PR Manager helped to clarify the situation. When asked to confirm whether playing games online via the PlayStation 3 would be free of charge, it was stated, plain and simply, "Please note that online gaming will be free right out of the box". There ya go.

Of course, like Square Enix did with Final Fantasy XI on the PS2, Xbox 360 and PC, a limited amount of publishers may still charge a fee for MMO-style titles.

BREAKiNG NEWS: TIFF Exploit For PS3 confirmed!?!

Quote:
sPECIAL nOTE:

Hmzzz i think we have news to give do we? Ever wondered why the PS3
is such a better machine than a xbox360? simply because they
implement too much stuff in one time! "SCEI" dont do that, you
need to learn a bit more from Microsoft on this part even when
they have forgotten a hypervision hack on kernel 4532 and 4548
they fixed it very fast! And what do we see on the PS3? Up until
firmware 1.51 we still see holes! Why? You guys dont have the
right persons to work with or is it just the pressure from
the big boss? So for now dont update higher than
1.51 since 1.54 hasnt yet been tested, and 1.51 had a few tiny
things fixed, but it didnt stop us much :-D Ohhh btw ever
wondered if those updates are required on a disc? Actually all
games up to now work without any update At least work fine on
1.32 :-) Thats all for now! So seeya tiff tiff and bye bye
So in summary, PS3 Devs should focus on finding that TIFF Exploit so that unsigned code can be ran, a PS3 iSO Loader, and just about anything else on v1.32 and lower... also, those who wish to play online can now update to v1.51 (since it still contains exploitable holes, obviously lower Firmware has even more though) without worry... very useful news indeed!

A new message from Ferrox has recently appeared on PS3tribe forums suggesting that an ISO loader is finally ready for the PS3. The message states.

Quote:
"Ferrox v1.0 PS3 ISO Loader. We have decided testing is over with. There are some unfixable glitches in the loader but nothing we can do. Loader will be released May 11, 2007 at 12:00PM PST. That means u guys probably won't get it till the 12th. We will be releasing distribution rights to limited websites. Not that this is legal anyway and we can do that. But, We hope after so much hard work for you to benefit you will at least appreciate our software. Ferrox.

PLEASE DON'T BEG FOR A DOWNLOAD LINK!
YOU WON'T GET IT!
JUST RELAX AND WAIT A FEW MORE DAYS!"
What do you guys make of this? Is this for real?I hope so
