I'd just like to warn everyone to
DO NOT BUY GENERATION OF CHAOS It's a horrible, dispicable excuse for a "game," and is an incredible disappointment, as the artwork and music aren't too bad. Unfortunately, the gameplay is about as easy and/or fun as taking high level calculus classes. Without a teacher. And your textbook is in Spanish. -There is no tutorial in the game. -You can barely command your troops in battle, making it a toss up if you'll win/lose. Not to mention the fact that battles are incredibly sluggish and chug like the game is on an outdated PC. -Load times are frequent and slow the game to a snail's pace. -All the menu commands are confusingly abbreviated in 3 letters like RCT, ARG, PRS. -The instruction manual only defines terms but doesn't help you apply it to any actual process or strategy. -The DIALOGUE TEXT LAGS during story parts. -The saving process is cumbersome (making you rename your save file and asking you if you want to delete some files even if you have hundreds of MB of space, EVERY TIME). -The text is nigh-unreadable as it's a tiny, mangled serif font. -It's not a NIS game, it's an Idea Factory game, so don't think I'm hating on NIS. I love Disgaea and Phantom Brave. Just check the board for this game on GameFAQs, you'll see a real shitfest going on. Fortunately, the day I bought it, I also put it up on eBay for 30 bucks and it sold in a few hours (I couldn't return it to EB, and their trade-in value is 15 bucks, talk about rip-off). I'm finally glad to have it off my hands. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I highly recommend importing DJ Max Portable if anyone likes music games (it's one of the most polished, replayable games I own). The next PSP games I have my eye on are Tales of Eternia (Euro import) and Megaman Powered Up! (US version). There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Well, actually, I might be the one for you to ask if you want to know about PSP games.
I own: -Untold Legends -Ridge Racer -Metal Gear Ac!d -Lumines -Mercury -GTA: LCS -Ultimate Block Party -Wipeout Pure -Gripshift -Legend of Heroes -Popolocrois -Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix -Hot Shots Golf -Ape Escape On the Loose -Smart Bomb -Rengoku -Darkstalkers -DJ Max Portable -Megaman Maverick Hunter X Legend of Heroes I'd advise against. It's very mediocre and clunky. The only PSP RPG I could recommend as a good game would be Tales of Eternia, and I haven't even played it yet. Popolocrois is better than LoH, but it's still a bit bland. Breath of Fire III (Euro edition) I heard has bad load times between fights, which would piss me off to no end, since the original game had an incredibly high encounter rate in the first place. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Well, if any of you are bored with the games, why not pick up a 2 gig card (down to 80-100 dollars now) and use the system as a movie/tv show/anime player?
That's what I do now when I'm not playing games. The new AVC video codec that came with firmware 2.0 is excellent. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Um. You can use emulators on 2.0.
The main thing you can't do on 2.0 is UMD emulation (ISOs) or use sleep mode during an emulator. Plus you can still downgrade back to 1.5. You can even use emulators on 2.6 if you have GTA. I'm not saying it's as easy as the 1.5 method, but it's possible (you can't downgrade on a firmware higher than 2.0, though BTW). I was speaking idiomatically. |
To upgrade a 1.5, you have to set your faked firmware number back to 1.5, then upgrade to 2.0. To downgrade from 2.0, follow these directions: http://forums.qj.net/showthread.php?t=20772 You may want to wait a little bit more, since MPH might come out with a UMD launcher for games 2.0+ on 1.5. I'm past that stage though (I have a 2.6 PSP), but you might be interested. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Replay value = through the roof! FELIPE NO |
See some of these shots for proof: http://www.1up.com/do/media?cId=3143481 There are also some videos on that site, I think. I remember seeing one with Iceman going through a stage. Read some of the posts at the gamefaqs.com entry for the game if you want more discussion: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gen...p?board=929675 You have to destroy the Robot master with only the standard buster in order to unlock them for use (but you can go back and try again as many times as you'd like, there's no missable stuff). Ultimately, you can unlock 12/13 characters for use. Spoiler:
I'd say get it used, maybe 20 bucks. 30 bucks if you're a real puzzle freak. Mainly because it doesn't have unlockables. The only real replay value is trying to get a higher score or beating the "story" mode (no real story, just a sequence of opponents). What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...Fencoding=UTF8 It's even cheaper, $90.88, at Newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820191430 So... there ya go. Then again, the 4gb stick that is coming out will premiere at 240 bucks (Link), so I'd still recommend the 2gb ones for now. Sandisk only, NOT sony. The 8gb ones are rumored to be announced this year, but: 1. Why would you need that much space. I have a 2gig card and I can fit several movies, about half a dozen different television/anime episodes, all my save games, and still have a few hundred megs to spare at high quality AVC video. I wish a firmware upgrade would add the support for videos to be named and sorted like photos (and have an ability for folders). It's a bit silly scrolling through a ton of videos. 2. Who knows if the PSP can even support that many gigs, or if games can write to a card that big. Might require a firmware update to read that much. 3. Expensive as fuck until a year or two afterwards. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I picked up Samurai Warriors: State of War for PSP today, and although I didn't play Dynasty Warriors (PSP version), from what I've played of this game so far, it is GREAT.
-19 Upgradable characters. -Tons of scrolls (abilities) to unlock. -No slowdown, no long load times. -Widescreen (not boxed off) And compared to what I recently played of Dynasty Warriors 4 (PS2), you can kill enemies a lot faster in this game, which is very satisfying. I love just barrelling into a group of baddies and slaughtering in several strikes, then triggering the musou. The "short battles" system is fun, too. I like strategically moving my character across the grid-system map and totally wiping out the opponent's generals and supply depots one by one. Fun fun fun. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
...however, I'm going to wait to see a price drop (or find it used). I can't really justify a 40 dollar purchase for a puzzle platformer at the moment. If it was 30, I might consider it. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I was speaking idiomatically. |
It's only going to be out in Japan and Europe (and Australia). I just ordered it off eBay for around 50 bucks (but I'd recommend getting it from NCSX, since they just restocked and they ship from NYC). What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Hoo hoo!
I just bought Megaman Powered Up and Daxter. I've only played MMPU and let me tell you: EXTREMELY FUN GAME. The amount of replay on this game looks to be through the roof with a ton of unlockables, characters, and the level editor with online file sharing. I'll get back to you on Daxter, it looks pretty kickass from the reviews so far. FELIPE NO |

Unless someone has a skin or a white PSP, they're all going to look the same. This is like saying "post ur gameboy." There's nowhere I can't reach. |
How ya doing, buddy? |
For the billionth time, you can't downgrade anything other than a 2.0 firmware (to a 1.5).
You're stuck with the 2.6, but you can still do emulation IF you have GTA. http://fanjita.org/ is the homepage of the method to load homebrew software on a 2.0+ firmware. www.pspupdates.com has a bunch of homebrew programs available on its site to be used with the loader. I'm currently looking into picking up I.Q. Mania. I just wish there were more reviews of it besides a few blurbs on the gamefaqs message board for it. From what I gather, the menus are all in English, which is a major plus. I'm also thinking about importing Taiko no Tatsujin, but I heard it has major Japanese in the menus, and I can't find a menu translation at the moment. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Import it. NOW. Forget Legend of Heroes/Popolocrois/Breath of Fire III (which would need to be imported). Tales of Eternia is the most incredible-looking and playing RPG that the PSP could have ever wished for. Positively amazing. Barely any load times, entertaining combat, sweet lush visuals. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
In terms of a PSP game, Tales of Eternia (Euro) is a definate 9.0. (if I was just playing it on console, maybe 8.5)
I never got to play the PS1 version, and it's hard to track down now. It has a lot of voice acting, bright colors, almost NO load times at all (very fast battles), and large character sprites. Out of the PSP RPGs I have played, I'd rate them: Legend of Heroes - 6.0 Popolocrois - 7.5 Tales of Eternia - 9.0 You won't regret it (unless you hate "Tales of" games). FELIPE NO |
I ordered I.Q. Mania, I'll mention how it plays when it arrives.
I'm planning to pick up a used copy of Virtua Tennis, I've heard a lot of good things about it. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I'm a big IQ fan, and it apparently has all of the music from the original (which was incredible), so I decided to pick it up. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
