Jack's dad could have very very easily said "we are not having an affair, she is helping me with my drinking" or something to that effect. Instead, they have him say "let it go" and all this stuff to make you think he is, then it's supposed to be a dramatic reveal when he it turns out he's not. I dunno, I look at, you know, real life situations and I just do not see these character interactions being realistic at all. People give me shit for having a problem with that, but it's something that has bugged me since season 2.
That's exactly it!

In case you other people didn't understand my argument, I was complaining how no one COMMUNICATES on this show AT ALL. They just fight without simply explaining things.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Spoiler:

Jack caused his dad's death. You see, his dad was recovering while he was still a doctor. Then, Jack's physical attack on his dad at the AA meeting caused his dad to drink again (as mentioned by his ex-wife as they left the polic station). What does this mean? This means that when Jack's father was drunk in the operating room, which lead to his being stripped of his license to practice medicine, it was because of Jack. Not indirectly, but directly because of him. It was because of all of that that Jack's dad fled to Australia, where he died shortly thereafter. So, there you go: Jack killed his father.

This is an F'N BRILLIANT example of how plot "chronology" can have such a deep impact on the story. I wonder how many people watched the premiere and missed this? I mean, anyone who hadn't seen the previous seasons wouldn't make the connection either. Basically, in this scenario, no facts have changed, but the way in which the timeline of events is presented to us has all the effect in the world. I've never seen another TV show do this across 3 seasons. Insanely wonderful...
That's not so new, I always thought Jack had feelings of guilt for having a fight with his father before the trip to Australia.

Even after the actual fight, he's still not directly responsible. It's the same as it was before. Indirectly responsible for the death. Jack's father made the decision to drink and go off and die of his own accord.

This isn't brilliant, and especially not because it is over 3 seasons. They're just stretching out the same basic character profile longer and longer.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Well, my favorite part of this episode was the fact that Ben no longer was being all "I'm a creepy evil guy."

Instead, he actually said, "THE FIRST THING I SHOULD PROBABLY DO IS BE HONEST WITH YOU"

Fucking finally. I mean, we all know that the Others aren't completely bad, and there's going to be some twist where the audience goes "ohhhh, we were wrong the whole time."

So essentially I want to start seeing some progress on the "not good, not evil, but in-between" front where Ben starts explaining what the hell they've been doing on the island instead of just having fights with the Losties (which frankly we could see on any other prison show).

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Hurry it up already.
I feel similarly, but you know as well as I do that there will be a 4th season (and most likely a 5th as well).

Alias was dragged on in the same way, but at least the different missions (that related to the story arc, not the standalone ones) made it seem like some sort of progress was being made.

How ya doing, buddy?

Not to mention as soon as that kid (whatshisname) that Locke picked up said he wanted in for blowing shit up, you could tell he was a cop.

Also, polar bear steals Eko. This is so laughable. Last-minute effort, guys? SINCE WHEN have polar bears ever dragged bodies off on the island? Since when have they even been a problem?

Why would the polar bear even DRAG EKO BACK TO THE CAVE and not bother eating him. Ugh. What the fuck. That irritated me so much.

Lets not even TALK about these two new fucktwats from the survivors - Nikki and Paulo or whoever. YEA HERE HAVE SOME NEW CHARACTERS.

Why is it that this show seems to be HARDLY MOVING ALONG?

I love this show. Seriously, I've never watched anything on TV religiously, but Lost is it for me. And they're REALLY fucking with me at this point. I am almost ready to give up the show, its getting so shit. ;_;
Seconded.

I think the writers just don't know what the hell to do with these characters anymore, so it's all a muddled mess.

Next week looks like crap, too.
preview:
Just a long boring episode where the Others do tortures on Sawyer. Fun.

Add in the fact that after the next 3 episodes, we'll have to wait until February, and you start to realize that this is all just the writers wasting time.

LOST= the way to watch a shitload of commercials with a bit of show tacked on.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I don't care about the commercials, I don't even watch them (I usually just browse on my computer during them, and when the show comes back on, I turn around).

However, the very fact that Lost is now becoming a very commercial-heavy show affects the storyline. It's obvious ABC wants to milk as much money out of it as they can (through advertising revenue), so the writers drag out the seasons.

I almost wish Lost had never gotten popular. The story would have been resolved by now and we could have been watching some new show.

You don't need to spoiler already-aired episode content.

Hurley said Deja Vu because Desmond had mentioned, "good speech" to him before (out of the blue), and then someone said "good speech" later after Locke talked.

It means that Desmond has some "seeing-the-future" bullshit. God I hate what this show's become.

Watching Lost is like being a kid and listening to your father tell you a bedtime story that he makes up as he goes along.

"Uh, and then the Others... um... they've been on the island all along! And... um, they have a book club! And maybe they're good, maybe they're bad... etc... Trust me kid, wherever I'm going with this is going to blow your mind!"

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Yeah, I won't begin to assume that Lost will pull itself together into an A++ series again, but I will admit that this premiere was a good episode.

Things happened, story moved forward, we learned some important info about one of the Others, we saw some brainwashing stuff. All good. Hopefully the writers have listened to the fans.

And it's interesting to see how Juliet has been on the island only just a little longer than the survivors. The survivors have been on the island 90 something days and Juliet said something like 3 months, 20-something days.
3 years, not 3 months.

Well seeing those messages really doesn't make me think that they were brainwashing Karl to spy on the survivor's camp. I think it was just trying to get him to conform to the ways of the Others because he keeps resisting.
It doesn't matter, you just KNOW at the end of a future episode he's going to turn his head, stare at the camera and twist his mouth into an evil smile.

OMG PLOT TWIST SEEN FROM A MILE AWAY.
