Played 1, 3 and 4, and the latter is easily my favourite. I'm not a big fan of RPGs so a lot of my liking it has to do with the fact that they ripped out a lot of the crap you usually find in these games. It was very stripped down, but I liked it because of that. Loathed the story initially, but after a while they started to touch on some more interesting subjects and it picked up from there. Could have dealt with its themes much better than it did, but did a decent job none the less. The battle system was great and so were the field sections. Jumping and sliding and such, it added a lot to the usually dull exploration sections.
As a whole the series is decent. I love the idea of a western setting for an RPG but when it comes to the execution I'd prefer if the magic and Si-Fi elements were left out. They completely destroy the Wild West feel the games rarely manage to attain.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
