Having worked in a small family-owned restaurant pretty much all my life, I understand that accidents happen. If something is wrong with my or my friend's food, I'll politely call the waiter/waitress over and let them know. If they handle it well, apologize, and replace the food, I'll assure them that it wasnt a problem, and make sure they get a regular tip, especially if they remove the item from the check.
All in all, I'm very understanding at regular restaurants, but if, for instance, something is wrong with everyone's food, or the accident occurs again and again, I'll be less than pleased.
Fast food places are actually where I get the most irritated, because, like Josiah, I hate it when they miss part of the order. I always check the bag at the drive-through before driving off.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
