Looks like MPH finally got there...
Quote:
Yesterday MPH announced that he had successfully loaded the Grand Theft Auto UMD on a 1.50, and now he has released this groundbreaking application to the public. This program is the first steps in allowing 1.50 PSP owners the ability to play UMD games that require 2.0+ firmware. GTA is known to work as are a few other games such as SOCOM, but some may suffer from limitations such as the inability to save. Feel free to leave feedback as to what UMD's currently work.
More Info/Download
Ah, a nice step to anti-piracy, but GTA loaded and performed much better with the usage of my Memory Stick as opposed to UMD. But shoot, now I can get Ac!d2 running on my 1.5 PSP, excellent!

Jam it back in, in the dark.
Love it.

Yeah, something odd there. Try reformating the Memory Stick, and resetting the system defaults. If that doesn't work, you know you gotta trade it in, or something.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

What about the MPH Game Loader?! Will I have to upgrade to play my precious Metal Gear Acid 2?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'm stuck at a default alert mode where I have to battle about 8 guys. I really don't want to kill them so I may achieve an A rating, but with 8 enemies, I've got to kill some.

How the hell?!

I just got Metal Gear Acid 2 for PSP, and thinking that the new DevHook would bypass the firmware upgrade I was wrong, it's 2.60. FACK!

Well, I'm going to put it on ISO then, so how do I go about patching it, and playing? With full SolidEye capability?

I really need to find out by tonight, for I am leaving tomrrow on a trip..

How ya doing, buddy?
Love it.

I checked EBgames / Gamestop's website and checked store availability to find my copy, but that's probably only available in the US (and maybe Canada).

You could probably order it from an online store (I think Konami sells their games directly from their own website, too) or have your local video game store special order it.
Yeah, that sounds right. Is there any firmware requirement?

Okay, here's for reference to those who may wish to play Acid 2 along with me.

<1> Buy the game,
<2> Download a "ripped" version off of bittorrent
<3> Use a combo of UMDEmulator and MPH GameLoader to boot up
<4> use the TobidAcid (solid eye)
<5> feel great that you bought the game and are supporting the PSP game industry, meanwhile playing NES mario games!

There you have it.

Ugh, it looks like DevHook has run into legal trouble from the dogs at Sony. This is stopping only a few sites from hosting DevHook, but it is still obtainable from a variety of places.

Quote:
With all the success of Devhook, I guess it was getting too uncomfortable for Sony on their comfy chairs. It seems that pspsoftware.ddo.jp, the actual release site of Devhook has received a Cease and Desist Order from Sony with regards to distributing Devhook.

Now my Japanese isn't something to write home about, so I'll leave it to 0okm, who has got the translation covered. Here's the translated text:

"Reboot_1.50.bin is the copyrighted material by SONY, that is mixed with DevHook0.43fix.
Warning from SCE to those who up-load DevHook0.43fix comes.
Moreover, please annul it at once when downloaded 0.43fix is preserved at hand, and it uses it.
Not seeing this knows and there is a possibility to use, too.
Please inform me of this when there is an owner in surroundings.
Moreover, the main body of DevHook and the relation file of all versions were deleted from this site.
As a result, opening DevHook on this site to the public is completely stopped."

Now you don't need to have a masters degree in English to make sense of that. Sony has taken action on PSPSoftware.ddo.jp for distributing Devhook and have also requested them to notify someone at Sony when the uploader (Booster) is online.

One thing's for sure, Booster will need to find a new place to host his awesome homebrew. But seeing this happen, I wouldn't be surprised if SCE/Sony start going after sites who are hosting Devhook. Well, let's just wait and see how everything pans out. A small suggestion by me would be to download the latest versions of Devhook as soon as possible, just in case everyone is forced to remove them off their sites.

...Yeah.

DevHook.

Basically it's a program that emulates up to 2.71 firmware, allowing you to play games that require 2.71. The easiest method to obtain this program "pre-made" (IE, bios and other things preinstalled) is to use BitTorrent.

Depressing indeed. But it seems as if Polyphony is following their usual trend of not letting people know what the hell they're doing.

The game looked amazing on the PSP, it was one of the reasons I bought the PSP in the first place.

Hmm... I do believe I'm talking about Gran Turismo Mobile. You know, the racing game by Polyphony that was supposed to support graphics nearly equivalent to GT3, with about 4 cars on screen? Yeah, the one that was announced at E3... That one.

Somewhat speaking of homebrew, I hate the icons I have, they look tacky. I want to change them to something "official" looking, so I was wondering if anyone has a .png of this icon. I'm going to set it to every emulator/homebrew I have, so it doesn't look so silly.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Honestly, I don't understand the problems with the PSP's Analogue stick. Lots of early reviewers had said they had problems with it, but I'm completely fine with the implementation. The only problem I have with it is that there isn't a second nub! I need one for Katamari, it's so difficult to control without cramping within 2 hours... Then again, maybe 2 hours is a hell of a time to be playing a portable in the first place...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Alright, I'm too lazy to go through the process of dumping 2.81. Can someone post the files necessary to place into the /dh/2.81 folder, or am I going to have to do it myself?

Fuck, I'm lazy.

Ah, you're probably right. Eh, I'll just do it late tonight.

Double Post:
Holy shit...

Quote:
Just a few short days after the landmark release of Devhook 0.50, Booster has once again updated Devhook to v0.51. And the amazing new addition in the latest version is nothing less than 3.01 emulation! While people couldn't have been happier, it was, in a way, expected after the original fireworks by none other than the Noobz crew.

While this should result in a lot of tinkering by everyone, for now, you probably will be able to check out PS1 games on your PSP if you're one of the lucky ones to have a PS3. Luckily, we do have a PS3 here at QJ and will be documenting all of our experiences. Watch out for them in the near future!

Anyways, I can bet that you'll all be dying to try this out. Well, what better than to link to our forums with a tutorial. And while it says that it's for Devhook 0.50, I've already confirmed that the same steps will work, even for the latest devhook. Finally, here's the latest release of Devhook and its respective SDK.

It's Ridge Racer... RIIIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDGE RAAAAAAAAACERRRRRR!!!!!!!!
F-STICK YEAH!!! I want to play Silent Bomber NOW!! YEehehehhehee! I'm so giddy!

Double Post:
I... I don't have a PS3. HOW will I get PSone games? Damnit SCEA!

Has anyone sucessfully loaded PSOne ISOs onto their PSP's and played them yet? I'm confused as hell as to how to begin to approach the method of doing it. I'll take to newbie way out, and ask for a tutorial for my lazy ass.

Oh one more thing too, if I were to install Dark Alex's custom amazing firmware, can I upgrade the firmware later? How does this whole flashing thing work?

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

This is a stupid question but I lost my recharging adapter. I only have the half of it, the one that plugs into the PSP. However, I found my laptop charger that looks exactly the same and has the 3A/125V. I believe the PSP is 5A/125V. That's less, and less couldn't harm my PSP can it? It'll just recharge slower? I'm not desperate though, I'll buy another charger soon if it's not possible - probably one of those cheap 3rd party ones; I heard those work perfectly.
If the charger is too powerful or is not compatible with the PSP's AC adapter, the PSP will automatically recharge or not, causing no harm to the actual unit.
