Either something's up with the motherboard or the hard drive(s) themselves, albeit a small portion if the format fails at 99%.
Try seeing if you can download a Linux liveCD (such as Knoppix) from another computer and burn it; see if it will, at the very least, mount the NTFS volumes.

The original error you mentioned in your first post sounds like the pagefile got screwed up, which requires you to disable and re-enable the pagefile to fix (in most cases).

Jam it back in, in the dark.

If you download the ISO, you can burn it to a CD (provided a CD burner, of course) with Nero or CDBurnerXP or something else.
Knoppix (and other LiveCDs) are, basically, Linux... installs that run entirely off the CD media that they're on. So, they stick nothing on your hard drives and run entirely from RAM, loading what's needed (unless, for most, you specify 'toram' at boot).
Again, basically, it's an operating system that runs entirely off the CD it's burned to.
