![]() Worth it for the obese lesbian cop with underaged hostage alone. Controls can be a bit annoying at times and herding survivors can be a chore, but this is gold through and through. Superbly atmospheric, fun and inventive, terrific open-ended structure with a helping of RPG elements with experience points, stats and new fighting moves. Multiple endings, tons of stuff to do and you get to fight an obese lesbian cop while in an armani suit and armed with a frying pan. Or a bowling ball. Or a houseplant. Or a servbot mask. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
I generally hate open world games because many sandbox games end up feeling very disjointed and what you do incidental and thus insignificant (there are exceptions of course).
Crackdown however, had me from the get go. There's not much plot, but you have clear cut goals and a wonderful multitude of ways of reaching them. Eliminate the three ruling gang lords. To get to them, you must first locate and eliminate each gang's sergeants and generals. So you explore the city, locating arms caches, helping local law enforcement fight back criminals and find clues to your targets' locations. It's very simple and all the more entertaining for that. Once you locate your target, it's up to you how you want to take them down. Run in the front door guns blasing, or sneak around the back, or climb up the building itself and infiltrate from the roof, etc. It's one of the most enjoyable games this console generation. The scale is massive, the action and structure focused, fun and satisfying. It's all about accomplishents and reward. The more you explore and discover orbs, the better your athletic abilities get, enabling you to run at high speed and jump ridiculous distances. The more you use explosives, your skill and power with them upgrades. Same for weapon accuracy, physical strength (lift cans, then criminals, then cars, then trucks) and vehicle handling. Hell, as your driving ability goes up, the agency vehicles physically transform to improved versions. There is nothing like boosting your agility a little and getting to the point where you can start jumping from building to building in massive leaps. Excellent fun in co-op too. And climbing the agency tower is one of those magical moments in videogame fantastico. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]()

If you have a PAL console, you should look into places like play.com. I mostly buy my PAL games there, since they cost like half the prices of games in stores over here.
I'm incidentally getting Arkham Asylum for the PC. I tried the PS3 demo, and then tried the PC demo to see how it runs on my computer. It runs extremely well with full detail, looks better and smoother, and has in-game support for my 360 pad so I immediately ordered the PC version. Shame it not release for almost another month. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
