I asked BigBlah for any good places, but he said there really aren't any. [12:28:14] <Gigablah> there's no really good place [12:28:21] <Gigablah> most of the ones available suck [12:28:43] <Gigablah> the only reliable one is Neko-han-ten [12:28:48] <Gigablah> which doesn't update too often [12:29:12] <Gigablah> I created ongawiki for this purpose, but I haven't had time to work on it [12 09] <Q-chan> well if they have older albums, that's fine[12:37:11] <Q-chan> bah, no Patlabor albums [12:37:28] <Q-chan> no Mobile Police Patlabor or Kidou Keisatsu Patlabor either for that matter [12:38:39] <Q-chan> they only have Believe Yourself Again in a separate section [12:44:52] <Gigablah> guess i'll work on adding patlabor albums to ongawiki next [12:45:37] <Q-chan> yes plz So that's good news at least ;_; One site that blah said is fairly comprehensive, would be here, which I've linked before. The trouble is of course it's all in Japanese, but at least you have a list of albums with all the codes and such there to help you look elsewhere from there on. Most amazing jew boots ![]() |
Definitely in no rush, so long as you're not deleting it any time soon =P Oh and anything you might like in exchange, let me know. Also had to go back to my Noa set, no matter how awesome Uniracers is. This just feels so comfy, just like my 8-bit ICO and Reki sets. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
Eh, well I switched to Uniracers because of the occasion and it was my suggestion to do a double-set with Juan to begin with (because of the occasion).
On the remastered movie side of things, I've yet to hear back from my co-conspirators on whether it's a go yet, but I noticed the film is eligible for amazon.com's special "Super Saver Shipping" inside the US, which means I'd be getting it without having to pay for shipping fees at all. I assume there'll still be a handling fee, but it's still money saved~ I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
I own a subbed VHS of the first film, and both films on DVD, and I've come this close to twice buying a newer double pack release (with some extra documentary that was so tempting), but have still resisted.
A proper remastered version I won't mind getting though. Especially one with such lovely extras. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
I was informed my aunt's friend would be returning from the states a bit later, so I'd be getting my hands on the movie pretty late into May, but at least they all seem ok with the plan, so I can place my pre-order soon.
Though I just realized Amazon.com won't probably accept payment by Visa Electron, so I'll probably need to ask to borrow my aunt's Visa again. Complications, complications, but I don't mind waiting for a few weeks if it saves me a good 30 bucks or so. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]()

Well, while GFF was down, I made some ordering of my own~
![]() Delivery estimate to ME: somewhere around May 18th ;_; FELIPE NO ![]() |
It's as if you've ignored every single picture and content description of the Limited Edition that's been posted so far, and are just now noticing them =/
That there's the original storyboard and a second book with interviews and articles was already apparent in the link Pyocola posted here. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
Link works fine for me, thanks a bunch <3
If they do ship the movie on time at Axel Music, I'll be getting mine pretty late when compared, but I'd be saving around 20 euros or so, so I don't mind. I might use them when buying the second movie, if they'll have it in stock. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
That's ridiculous. 65 seconds for me at maximum. The download time is a different matter, of course.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
I'm guessing you've overused rapidshare and they've got your IP flagged for shitty service
![]() 70 second wait for the 7-9 pack for me just now. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
Wow, I just got a 15 minute wait for the 9-10 pack.
The big clue is in the line above, though.
Pyocola, I'm thinking you may have to reupload some of the later packs if rapidshare only hosts them for a few days. I really appreciate you uploading them at all, though. Thankies <3 I also noticed I have a bunch of Akemi Takada artbooks, if you're missing any. (no books 4 u, spat) ![]() I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
Anybody got their Limited Edition yet? I went to check if mine was still set to ship on the 30th and noticed Amazon raised the price to $80.99. Mine will still ship for $62.99 so I'm glad I didn't wait around to order it.
They're apparently preparing it for shipment, so hopefully that means no hitches along the way~ ![]() How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
It's finally here~
![]() It sure took a long time to get here, but man is this a sweet package <3 I can't wait to get to watch this tonight, though I need to watch the Eurovisions 2006 finals first. THEN it's Patlabor time! More pictures here in case anyone's interested. EDIT: I took a little peek of the film, just to see how the picture quality is and there's quite some changes. [21:12:04] <Q-chan> Wow, they've completely reworked the film [21:12:16] <Q-chan> the picture is so good, and they've redone the sound [21:12:43] <Q-chan> the music is arranged. Same composition, but slightly different arranegements and a lot more instruments in use [21:12:53] <Q-chan> a lot of new sound effects where there were none [21:13:12] <Q-chan> and they must have removed something as well, at least the parachute sounds at the very beginning weren't there FELIPE NO ![]()

I've already decided I'm not going to go through this again and I'll just order the Patlabor 2 LE directly to Finland and just pay whatever it costs me.
Oh and my LE box is number 1845 out of 10000 ~ ![]() What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]()

Man, they've really revamped everything about the film. I didn't think they'd redo the voice acting as well.
It's a subtle change, but the atmosphere and mood in certain scenes plays out differently now. It's still an amazing film by any standards and I can't for the life of me understand how anyone could seriously call this movie dull =/ Still, I wish they hadn't redone the ending theme, I liked the old version so much better. Now if there was a (easy) way to watch the film with the new picture and the old audio, that would be interesting~ Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
Original audio (Manga Video) New audio (Bandai)
If there's some kind of Sound Renewal version of the Patlabor Movie OST like there was of P2, I'm pretty sure this Bandai version uses the same music, or something very similar. Double Post: As I should have expected, the Patlabor The Movie Archives book sheds light on this whole thing. Basically, DVDs came, Dolby Digital was all the rage, so Headgear was encouraged to remaster the two movies into better shape, but because the original audio of the movie was, well.. old, they had to recreate the audio from scratch. So all of the dialogue was rerecorded, with the original cast, in 1998. Kenji Kawai re-arranged the music as well, adding and using more instruments etc etc. ![]() ![]() ![]() Soo, basically, once again, the US publisher fucks up. As the last paragraph states, the Japanese release included both the original audio and the Sound Renewal version. I'm guessing the original audio "had" to be left out because of the english dub track. Now, what the VAs and designers say in the text I agree with. The new mix is fascinating, making the experience richer, new, with such small subtle changes. More emphasis on sound effects in moments that used to be more or less silent, and vice verca, it's a wonderful new look into an old masterpiece, and because the original crew made it, you know it's close to their intended vision. However, being denied the option to hear it like it was originally made, which should have been there anyway, is kinda ticking me off. Like the text says, Patlabor 2 did not require rerecording, so I shouldn't be worried about there, but right now I am extremely tempted to try and find a DVD image rip of the Japanese LE, take the original audio track, and then compile and burn a DVD of my own with the Japane LE original audio and the US LE video and subtitles. Trouble is, I've no idea where to start looking. Pyocola, any help? ;_; There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]()

And again, since I use headphones, 5.1 in itself is largely irrelevant for me. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
I'd also argue that of course a 2.0 mix is going to sound quiet on some weedy home theater speakers that are like ten feet away from you, since usually the sound gets distributed on at least 3 more speakers =/
I've watched the Manga Video release plenty of times wearing headphones and the howl of the wind is massively powerful in either version. However, the 5.1 mix emphasized music over sound effects in some scenes (which it did not do in the 2.0) so the howl gets lost, while some scenes emphasized sounds over music. These are only noticeable because I'm so used to the 2.0 mix, though. The horns in the 5.1's ending theme sound entirely different from the original version though. I don't have the Sound Renewal OST for P1, so I haven't gotten used to it like you have, apparently. Similarly, I feel that the original version of Heavy Armor (the theme that plays at the start during the runaway crab labor incident) has a bit more oomph to it because of the "hardness" of the synth, while the new instruments soften the tune a lot in the 5.1. This is what happened to In the Morning Sunlight (the ending theme) as well. But that's obviously just me, I never like listening to the Sound Renewal OST of P2 either. How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
The Manga cover isn't even that good, but the LE cover is pretty awful. But then so was the P1 LE as well. They just take two figures from two different covers (probably the front and back of the Archives book like with P1) and then stick them together in a shitty photoshop job.
Ah well, I'm buying it for the film and books anyway. Incidentally, I had no idea P2 was coming out in July already, I better ask my aunt again if we can order it, I thought it was coming out later in the fall. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
Mwahahaha, it's finally here~
![]() Arrived earlier than Amazon predicted, and didn't even got stuck in customs. <3 <3 <3 our postal service for random toll grabs. Watching this in a sec so bad. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
