Kindly get him to fix a few complete lies in the first post. 1) The photos I took are not of the final XMB (nor are they courtesy of you). Like I said, they are from a very early firmware which lacked almost everything. 2) I am not a fucking "PS3 dev", I don't care if he misunderstood you or not, but I am not a fucking official source and you better make sure he understands that and fixes it right away. That's spreading misinformation, and to call crap like that a Q&A session is fucking ridiculous. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
I have to say Resistance is no Halo, but if Insomniac can pull of at least a competent PS3 shooter out of it, it'll steamroll everything with its setting and magnificent sound design alone. Other than that they've sadly gone the PC-shooter-to-console route instead of actually engineering the FPS mechanics around consoles, like Halo and Goldeneye 007 did.
The new(er) code we got to play of Motorstorm managed to look a whole lot better than the TGS demo. The sunlight and shading is ridiculously close to photorealism, they've done fantastic work. Looking at the screen a bit further away, it moves exactly like live footage would and the cars have a very "physical" look to them, even when the physics in-game are still so playful. Updated blog entry with photos (and video) once I get home. My Genji/Motorstorm one even got a few comments ![]() This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
I just remembered a minor detail about the XMB I noticed last time I played Resistance. I don't know if any other site's reported on this and I've no photos to show at the moment, so you'll have to take my word for it for now.
Not only does the XMB background color change depending on the selected month like on the PSP (I changed the date in order to get a nicer color for some of the later photos), but time of day also affects this. The later the system clock gets, the darker the XMB will look, with noon being the brightest. When I booted up the PS3 around 8PM, I immediately wondered who had changed the date again because the background color was so different, till I realized it was meant to look like it's evening since it was late. As you change the time to midnight, the background color goes all nocturnal on you and the atmosphere is extremely gloomy. It's a neat little detail I guess, but I'd rather my midnight playings be accompanied by more cheery colors rather than my whole console basically screaming "IT'S LATE, GO TO BED ALREADY". Not that I know of, though the firmware we had was pretty old in order to run the TGS code. I doubt it'll be that customisable, though. I do hope you will be able to put the music player to play in the background while you surf the web or look at photos. That's something I wish they'd get around to fixing on the PSP.
Oh and those videos I promised, I couldn't get around to hosting them at the blog, so I'm hosting them on GFF instead. http://staff.gamingforce.com/qwarky/PS3_beep.avi http://staff.gamingforce.com/qwarky/PS3_bootup.avi I was speaking idiomatically. ![]()

But think of the exposure! Bobo will be thrilled!
(or you're free to go to my folder and delete the files the second you spot them linked on some other forum. Don't touch my images, though >=U) What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |

Because that was the whole point of the "Sony E3 in one minute" video.

Right, so I finally got photos of that little clock trick in the XMB.
![]() Noon, it's bright and colorful. ![]() Evening, a lot darker. I think this was around 7 pm. ![]() Midnight, everyone is asleep. Source is my entry on playing F1, Lair, Ridge Racer 7 and the full version of Resistance. All in finnish I'm afraid, but at least you have the pictures. ![]() TANK! Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
Wow, those look absolutely terrible. Seriously, usually Japan has the most vibrant and fun game covers but these are just stagnant D:

Unless of course you were actually trying a "RE has tank controls geddit" joke, in which case ::tumbleweed:: As for the PS3 HDD, I was told at work that there were already blog entries of people switching their hard drives to a 120GB one, but I have yet to see one. I seriously doubt opening the PS3 will be allowed (still going to void your warranty), but for HDD exchange you won't need it anyway since you remove it from the side. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |

My mother mentioned news in the paper today about the Japanese launch of PS3.
The 100000 units caused quite a lot of trouble and apparently the black market resellers had hired homeless people to stand in queue for them to get multiple units ![]() I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
So has anyone tried using their PS3 controller on a PC yet?
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=45209 I'm curious to find out if it really works as a standard USB controller that games actually recognize or if the few posters who couldn't get it to work weren't just butterfingers after all. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
I have a question for people who actually have a PS3 and my searches found no proper answers elsewhere on the internet.
Can you plug an external USB HDD into the PS3 and use it for storage as is, or is every HDD related matter have to be done through the main HDD bay? FELIPE NO ![]() |
Ah, so it's at least possible through Linux, thank you. Alright, I'll see if someone can get a confirmation on the XMB use. I vaguely remember talk of USB memory sticks working on the PS3, so external HDDs wouldn't sound impossible.

So I was trying out PS2 games on the PS3 (with firmware 1.50) and shockingly FFXII looks like crap on a Bravia. Granted, it's a big TV, but the scaler is said to be really good, so I don't get what the fuck. For such an expensive TV, you'd think smaller resolution image wouldn't look like a dog puked out something digital.
Well sure, it's not actually as bad as I feared, and I can imagine PS2 games look much worse on some crappier TVs, but it does not bode well what with pretty much all manufacturers having moved to LCDs and other flat TVs. It kept bothering me how much of it was the PS3's fault and how much it's the LCD, so I hooked up a PS2 with component and sure enough it looked awful as well. Actually slightly better, but I wouldn't want to play my old games on an LCD if this is what an uber leet TV like Bravia produces. I came home and played the game on my 29" Trinitron and sure enough the picture was sharp and clear as ever. The anti-alias edges were no longer bigger than the characters' heads and you could see how sharp and detailed the textures were. The game looked like N64 graphics at times on the Bravia. I would love to see what it looks like on a regular TV through a PS3, though, and how different it would look on a smaller Bravia, whether it would be sharper and clearer, or simply the same digital-blurry crap, only smaller. Either way I am terrified and depressed about the notion that new expensive TVs will make your old games and DVDs look like shit (as opposed to at least as good as before, while many dream of improvements) and that you absolutely need HD image to get anything out of them in the first place. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
So erm, no one actually managed to get an external USB harddrive to work directly on their PS3, did they?

Nope. European machines will connect to European servers and I don't think you can change this yourself unless the game itself lets you connect manually. The latency would simply be too much for worldwide play.

So.. watching .avi files on your PS3 through streaming should be possible?
What exactly does DLNA server require (physically) to work, will a WLAN do or does it need some other wireless add-on? I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
And I severely doubt they'll be including divx support, ever, because of whatever licensing crap made them leave it out of PSP and PS3 in the first place. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
Anyone interested, I took some photos today of the new playable code of Lair and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune for my blog.
![]() ![]() Whole entry. An older entry with Heavenly Sword pics. Most amazing jew boots ![]() |
All they need is AI that actually gives you a challenge instead of Medal of Honor style shooting gallery, and that they drop the context sensitive actions that only work randomly (especially melee. If you're going to copy Ha|o, do it right for god's sake).
I'm told the trailer footage collected was from the playable code that was on show. It was a full level that they played through, apparently. To be perfectly honest, I personally am not that impressed with it on the technical side, but maybe I'm not that desperate to finally see a PS3 killer app in the first place. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
While everyone is busy masturbating furiously on the Killzone 2 trailer, I finally realized what felt so off about it.
I realize the code is unfinished, but for a team that doesn't shy away from most smoke and mirrors tricks, how come they can produce graphics and motion blur of this quality ![]() yet leave in laughably shoddy 2D flame and explosion effects like these ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Most amazing jew boots ![]() |
