So, basically, you're implying that, since people have low expectations concerning videogame-based works, they'd rather, and legitimately, retain the same stupidity they've been sporting so far. Good logic there.
Look, it's not a matter of supposed expectations or adherence to the originals. It's about common sense, really.
A martial artist Milla Jovovich combined with a spoofed Nemesis, uninspired settings, bland storyline and unfitting character portrayal (I'm looking at you, Jill *insert random swearing* Valentine). That isn't common sense, it's just an inexcusable attempt at milking bad scripts from a great series.
Yes, I think the movies were very disappointing. But, I'd say that the more the expectations, the more incentives the directors have to fulfill a proper narration of the story. Though, for the record, I actually doubt that's going to happen anytime soon.
