I think some people aren't that familiar with new people, as such don't open up that quickly.
I've seen many people who are like that. Quiet on the first glance, but very different once familiarity sets in. Shy > Quietness. Quiet people are just a hard nut to crack... (and worse off, I'm try to get a girl who's quiet) Jam it back in, in the dark.
