Since I was a kid, I've really liked red. I mean I really really liked red, any bit of red, I went nuts over. And somehow, everyone knows this so all the crap people gift me is red. Then a couple years ago, I made an casual observation that okay, a lot of Chinese people like red. It's for a multitude of reasons, red is the color of good fortune, prosperity, celebration and communism.
I teach a literacy class for immigrants and all the China ones go batshit over the color red. It makes me feel uncomfortable since I can just imagine my passion for red is a roundabout way of supporting Mao and his buddies. So I've been wearing a lot of purple lately. But I voted red, since my secret shame is of a sanguine hue. Jam it back in, in the dark.  |
