Out of interest, is there any benefit to mixing the skills up a bit or should I just go for Athletics
Yeah in your case I would recommend just jamming on the Athletics button. At least you didn't burn any more this turn!

Right, so: Level 8. Everybody gets +1 to two ability scores of their choice, and one feat. ALSO RETRAINING I am always forgetting to mention the retraining. If something's not working for you, swap it out! Go crazy.

As was established a while back the offline character builder which we've been using is no longer being updated by WotC. It will still WORK (provided none of you uninstalled it in the meantime), so if you're not concerned about getting the latest options you can just pick your level-up feat from that.

Alternately, if you do want to look at new stuff (basically anything produced since October) I can PM you the login for my DDI account and you can use the online builder which I've already imported all your characters into. It's just one feat but I don't want to deny you guys options.

There is an unofficial third-party workaround with updates for the offline builder but it's kind of a nuisance and not really worth the trouble just to select one feat. Probably gonna switch to it next time we see a new PC though since it allows you to fold third-party stuff into the CB. Corgi! In the builder! The future is now soonish.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

PM sent, Shin.

Hey Pang, can you send me an exported version of Sam so as I can toss him in my builder?
Yup.

All right, I'm still slowly applying everyone's level up changes to Obsidian Portal and waiting on wvlf's decision for a new feat, but you guys can go ahead and continue play. Provided you don't do something that requires wvlf's immediate input, I suppose.

Edit: Those changes are fine Cette, so far as I'm concerned retraining can be treated more or less like a respec in Diablo or something; change anything you want about your guy except his name/race/class.

Edit 2: Wealthy adds +2 to History, not Intimidate!

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

the intimidate is from Lost Kin.
CB says Lost Kin offers a bonus to Nature checks regarding geography. And then Two Sides of the Coin offers Bluff or Insight. Maybe this Intimidate thing was a bug in the CB at some point. =/

Also, while wvlf is still waiting to take a look at his feat options, I thought I should mention that today's Dragon article offers 4 new genasi manifestations: Embersoul, Magmasoul, Sandsoul and Sunsoul. They're not in the builder yet but if you wanna take one of those instead of Wind or whatever just say so.

How ya doing, buddy?

Artifacts are subject to concordance; in short, they get better if they like the way you behave, they get worse if they dislike you, and if their opinion of you is completely in the gutter they just turn up missing. But Beefi should get along fine with the mace provided he doesn't do anything terribly out of character!

Here's the powers, 'til I get round to editing them onto Obsidian:

So you both lunged for the controls, but your heads collided and you were both knocked out leaving you slumped over the steering wheel as an unmanned minotaur careens wildly toward the embankment. Cool.

Yeah runepriests are pretty much the most convoluted, highest-skill-ceiling class in the game. I was always kind of surprised you went for it (albeit partially).

So, like, theoretically, do you guys think the Furious Five would rather have an RV or a helicopter. In theory.

Right, so I've never adjudicated a D&D poetry slam before but I think we'll go with a two-part combined Insight/X check, where X is whatever skill is most relevant to your poem's topic. Actually writing a poem instead of just describing how great your poem is will grant bonuses.

Never before have I lamented the loss of Perform (Oratory). I am really looking forward to Slim's Intimidating Poem though.

Since the story is mainly about warriors, can I add my athletics to that?
That would make sense, I told you guys to add a second check based on the topic of your poem. How many of you have done that? Oh, none? Ok.

Apparently nobody cares about rituals (surprise surprise), so I'll just skip the details there!

Not to alarm anybody, this certainly isn't anything I'm going to change in the immediate future* — but is anybody, say, really attached to D&D as a rules system? I'm not looking to change the general campaign feel or anything, but there are plenty of other systems we could use for what is basically an everything-goes fantasy sandbox — systems with combat that's a little less, uh, fiddly and slow.

Ok that and Hawk has basically succeeded me as Remedial RPG Instructor and maybe we could move on to something a little less mainstream? Sperg sperg

*Tomb of Horrors is kind of a long-ass adventure you may have noticed.

I know I said we wouldn't be making the system changeover anytime soon, but I found a ruleset that fits our needs so well it'd be a shame to delay any longer. I'll fill you in on rules details later, but for now here are your updated character sheets:

Beefi Kertanz
Garoldine Fangus
Gra-Fa-Zoë
Samantha Shadowspade
Uxig "Shirley" Uxigson

Any questions, just let me know!

Well, I got two indifferent answers and no negatives on the system-change question so I've decided to consider that a Wildly Positive Response. That being said: wvlf is rotating out after this adventure, but would the rest of you prefer:

A: I try to convert your character as-is to the new system, with all the rough edges and weird inconsistencies that implies.

B: You just make a new guy.

If you don't answer I'm defaulting to B, so let me know.

We're probably doing Warhammer FRP if that helps you decide.

Why would you want to remind me of that?

Missed anyway.

So yeah what do we figure the odds are that we're going to be switching systems earlier than expected?
If you'd like to get started on your WFRP character, it's easy! Warhammer character creation is quick, simple, and horrifyingly unfair and random. To begin, just choose a race (human, elf, dwarf or halfling) and roll 3d10 to determine your starting career.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Oh.

Edit: In WFR, it's usually a D100 isn't it? i.e. 2D10 but it's the individual numbers that matter rather than the total.
I don't know whether you played 1st ed or 2nd, but we'll be doing 2nd (3rd is a little too trinket-heavy for my liking and evidently they removed halflings which I will not countenance). With the Career Compendium there's around 120 starting careers so the roll is expanded to 3d10. 1d1000 would probably work just as well considering we don't need to physically hunt down a thousand-sided solid.

edit: actually the dice roller won't allow d1000, so 3d10 it is!

Everything else in Warhammer is some variety of monster or evil mutant. It's technically POSSIBLE to be a Chaos Dwarf or an Orc or something, but unless the whole party plays Chaos/Greenskin things would get ugly pretty fast. It might be fun to do an evil adventure sometime in the future though.

It's kind of an abrupt shift in tone, I suppose, from the cosmopolitan high fantasy of D&D. As an example, let's look at combat briefly. In D&D, a "critical hit" might do some extra damage. In WFRP, a "critical hit" looks like this:

Quote:
Hand turned into a bloody ruin. Anything held in this hand is dropped (excepting a shield). Blood loss is such that the character has a 20% chance of dying each round until medical attention is received. Test at the start of the victim's turn each round. Use the Sudden Death rules for any further Critical Hits on this opponent. If he survives this combat, he must make a successful Toughness Test or lose the hand permanently.
So that's fun!

Yeah, probably. The rules are thoroughly enmeshed in the setting so it just works. It's probably a lot easier to pick up on for everyone else than Forgotten Realms was, since it's literally just a map of Europe that somebody drew while having a seizure.

Quote:
You're only going for WFR so we can get murdered by Skaven aren't you?
Skaven, hell. I expect multiple fatalities from an encounter with snotlings.
