I only beat it recently, but Castlevania 3 is easily one of the best classic games I've ever played. The music is aweosme (at least in the Famicom version), it's challenging, and the boss battles are great. There's something charming about the classic CVs in general, mostly how your character is so weak, and there's no air control at all (meaning the medusa heads are hell.) Really, it just defines what a good 8-Bit Platformer should be.
