Saaawnic Rush Adventure

Quote:
SEGA Europe and SEGA of America today announced the development of Sonic Rush Adventure for the Nintendo DS. Sonic Rush Adventure will seamlessly utilise both screens of the Nintendo DS to navigate the high seas in search of pirate treasure, delivering Sonic's classic high-speed 2D gameplay in the ultimate Sonic handheld experience. Developed by SEGA Studios, Sonic Rush Adventure for the Nintendo DS will be available in Autumn 2007.

Sonic returns to the Nintendo DS in an all-new frantic adventure complete with dizzying dives, near vertical curves and brain twisting loops. Sonic Rush Adventure will retain the DS action that fans loved so much from Sonic Rush, as well as providing a new high seas adventure where Sonic clashes with ruthless pirates. Players will set off from Windmill Village as Sonic and blast their way through seven action-packed and widely diverse levels. Sonic Rush Adventure will make full use of the DS Download Play feature and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, which enables gamers to compete with friends in wireless racing and mission-based battles.

Players will speed through action stages to uncover valuable items and materials which all Tails to build new ships to help Sonic discover the high seas. With a fleet of up to five ships, including a submarine, water bike and hovercraft, Sonic Rush Adventure uses the Touch Screen technology in exciting new ways. Use the Nintendo DS Stylus to help control vessels as they race across the ocean gathering rings, performing tricks, and torching pirate boats, whilst engaging in fierce ship-to-ship battles. At the end of each level, epic 3D boss battles spanning both screens will test gamers skills to result in an ultimate showdown with the evil pirate, Captain Whisker (laffo).

Sonic Rush Adventure allows players to bounce, fly, swing, ride and run through grand environments of lush forests, an ominous ghost ship, snow covered mountains, pirate villages and a vast underwater sea cave. Along the way there will be a variety of enemy characters to battle against including robots, skeleton warriors, pterodactyls, and a robotic triceratops.
oof

So it seems to be Sonic and Tails only, which is good, and it's online.. but.. controlling hovercrafts and subway sandwiches? Oh man, that could be a mess if they break up the platforming too much. Who the hell is Sega Studios these days? The Shadow team? Please reduce the bottomless pits of doom in each level by at least 95%, love Infernal. Also I wonder if the Jet Set dude's doing the soundtrack again. RIGHT THERE, RIDE ON. :]

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I'd support that, just to see them fit it all on the box AND have Sonic in his typical tough guy/pansy 'caught in the middle of a dance' pose.

Because Sega's lost the plot. ='D PRESENTING CAPTAIN WHISKERS.

What a dashing robot, he sure doesn't resemble a classic villain!

No Sega! NO! NOOOOOO! It's Cream with a racoon tail shoved up her arse, here to save the day. ;__;

Hopefully because they're throwing the character design in the bin!

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

That was their Secret Rings promise, and that took all their willpower, like giving up smoking! So now they're back on track to fresh new faces!

Oh hey new screens.

That farting mushroom level has pretty a pretty bland look to it, I guess DS can't do Blast Processing.

Infernal bumps another dead Sega thread today coz kksjfsjkfs Gameplay video. Looks and sounds just like the first which is good. Hopefully there are less pits of pitty doom. Still no sign of that stupid new character that's already a HENTAI SUPERSTAR.

What the hell does bonzer even mean?

You wacky australians and your crazy slang moon language. Also, I don't think Ken would appreciate you cooking shrimp on his plastic doll girlfriend. 8(
They'd melt into her and she'd become some half woman half sea creature combination fried rice! Also bonzer is like 'great!' except.. confusing. ;_;

Good to see EGM's still dedicating as little space as possible to actual video game reviews. I bought one issue years ago out of interest, only to discover big name game reviews got one page at the most, while the rest of the magazine was littered with adverts for jellybeans and shoes.. with jellybeans!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

IGN's UK review is up. 9/10. Which is pretty much what they given every portable Sonic platformer over the years I think. =') Sounds good though, apparently the level designs are really good (less pits of doom?) and the 'adventure' bits don't drag things down too much. And unless I'm reading things wrong, there's two player races to the finish.. online?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I love the music in this game! It's the closest it's been to traditional Sonic-y type music in years. Everytime Marine talks I feel so awkward, nobody EVER says 'SHE'LL BE APPLES' here. YOU CAN'T BE AN APPLE! The Wave Race sections are dumb, but not nearly as dumb as I thought they'd be. I lol'd that the game starts with a tutorial on how to make Sonic run and jump. Tricky stuff for sure. The actual platforming levels kick the shit out of the first Rush game. They flow even better, and you can feel like a cool cat when you do gnarly radical wicked tricks in the air and land on a rail or something. Also, less bottomless pits. Pretty great stuff, eight thumbs up.

Also before I bought this, Miles was telling me about how the boss music said "FUCKIN' " over and over, and now that's the only thing I hear whenever I fight a boss. ='D

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Too right? Strewth, if I ever find out the flamin' dingos that were responsible for that wally meat pie of a Skippy the Bush Kangaroo dialogue, I'm gonna say 'G'day mates', take them on a walkabout, then deck the buggers with me... umm.. bronzed.. Vegemite.. apple, something!
