Except last I heard, this ruling concerned almost all firearms, even automatic weapons.
I always considered it a right of the militia, not an individual one. The notion that the citizenry need firearms to resist the government in its current form is dangerous because then we inevitably get situations like Waco. While I recognize the history of the founding, keep in mind that it was in response to dictatorial rule. The democratic tradition is too strongly rooted in the US to justify keeping arms on an individual level for the defense of liberty. Besides, it also does bring down crime rates. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
