Someone left their car running outside my place.

I went out with my friend for a bit today and got back at around 6:00 and this white car is running parked outside with the keys in the car and nobody in it. It's 3 am here now, 9 hours later, and the thing is STILL running with the key in the ignition and nobody in it. I have no idea who's car it is and not going to knock on 20 apartment doors to find out.

Kinda weird, never encountered this kind of mistake before. Who leaves their keys in the ignition and the car running and forgets to turn it off? Locking your keys in the car, leaving a light on, leaving a door unlocked I understand. This is weird though, I wonder if some type of bomb is in the car or they are daring someone to steal it. I didn't check to see if the door was locked. If not I could just get in and drive away with it.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Should I call the police and report it? I don't even know how to call the police.

It doesn't seem 911 worthy.

I did and talked to the cop. He gave me an attitude. Said to me "and you're just reporting it now?" I said, I went around to the store at 10, noticed it was still running, I didn't think 3/4 hours was enough to report it, but 9 hours is a bit much.

He's running the plates.

Edit: The cop left, but the thing is still running. There's probably anthrax leaking out of the exhaust right now.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Maybe the plates matched a house on another street? I don't know....
