You did the right thing... the cops wouldn't have done anything unless they were actually there at the time... she wouldn't have waited around for them and it would probably have gotten worse if you tried to restrain her. If you did nothing, you would have regretted it later... at least I would have. I would never hit a woman under most circumstances, but I don't care who you are, you don't mess with my family... especially my mother. In a case like that, it's all instincts and reflex... not rationalization. An eye for an eye, I say. Good job!
