Just because you hooked up the Wii using Component cables does not automatically set it into 480p, I don't think. Try it.
For the record, this means it was probably also happening on your old TV, just that SDTV's were intentionally blurry to hide this.

I had it set to 480p right when I got my component cables. You're probably right about my old tv being blurry to hide the problem. Even so I do agree with Malmer that the texture, detail, and colors do look a whole lot better since I started using 480p with my component cables so this offsets the con of which I spoke of.
There's nowhere I can't reach.
