Unless something radical happens to alter the course, I'd say it's a safe bet that I'll be diabetic by 40. I'm on official "watch" status now, meaning that I periodically check my blood sugar in the same way that a policeman stops cars to check for current inspection stickers.
35-40 is a little young for adult onset Diabetes. And if it happens, it won't even be true Diabetes. Rather, it'll be the side-effect of another medical condition. This side-effect causes blockage in the pancreatic ducts and reduces the flow of available insulin. It's not that I wouldn't be making insulin; it just won't be able to get where it needs in efficient time.
On the plus side, the same medical condition makes me immune to cholesterol, hypertension and most causes of arteriosclerosis, so it's red meat and egg yolks until I die!
