I'm genuinely surprised that "Continental Highway" did so poorly. It has all the earmarks of many past finishers. I suspect that the communal tastes of SotW voters have shifted in the past year, with a heavier favor toward quirkiness instead of epicness. The fact that "Now You're A Hero" took bronze is circumstancial evidence of that.
But I am glad that the proceedings didn't bend over for Huelsbeck. He's a phenomenal composer and his place amongst VGM's elite has been all but set into granite. Still, a Huelsbeck nomination shouldn't be a one-way trip to a gold medal, as has been the pattern until now. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
