Greetings from the GFF NE Meet! Taking a break from the idiocy to get my votes in this week (I missed last week.)
3 Points: Yogurting Original Soundtrack - The Student Council is Very Busy! I defy anyone to not tap their toes and sway a little as this song plays. Even if western music isn't your thing, there's enough synthy meat to chew on as well. The melody is freakin' fantastic! This one hasn't been in my playlist for long but it's already become one of my most-listened to tracks. Insta-love. 1 Point: Sekaiju no MeiQ Super Arrange Version - Battle - Destruction Begets Decay A very smooth introduction that melds into a nicely developed piano-rock number. Elements of funk and fusion kept it lively. Toss in some Latin brass and it gels just right. A very noteworthy selection, and one I'll be keeping. 1 Point: Tr3s Lunas - Tr3s Lunas I'm always fond of seeing mainstream musicians take a stab at VGM composition. David Arkenstone and Ronnie Montrose have been pleasant surprises, so why not Oldfield? I've long been a huge fan of "Tubular Bells" and Oldfield's new-age style shines through here as well. It's cool and calculated but also enveloping. Quite nice. 1 Point: Maple Story (Game Rip) - Tree Dungeon I greatly liked the first Maple Story submission to SotW (Above the Treetops), and am pleased to see that this one continues to relaxed, airy quality. Is it a track that will set the VGM community on fire? No, but it's still a pleasant listen and one for a nice, quiet summer afternoon. Nothing wrong with that, not by a longshot. The rest of the tracks were actually good too - not a weak link in the bunch. This was a tremendous step up in quality from the past couple weeks. (I did listen to last week's tracks but never found time to vote.) And now, a nomination: Album: Iridion 3D & II Arranged Soundtrack Composer: Manfred Linzner Track Title: Aniki Track Number: 9 Catalog Number: SHN CD 002 Source: Chudah's Corner Additional Notes: None, other than that this song is absolutely spectacular. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
