AEON - thin clothes -ETHER: Not bad. I found the melody to be repetitive, but at least it's a catchy sort of repetition. The key change at the end was enjoyable and prevented the track from feeling like it had no ultimate direction.

beyond the dead future - oriental mechanist: An interesting departure from the usual, I admit, but beyond the novelty factor, there's not much else to discuss. Just some drum loops. Meh.

Claymore - over take: When people talk about "generic" rockin' tracks, this is what comes to mind for me. Many of the guitars sound canned, and the melody isn't very strong. It's a lot of chugging and noodling. The whole effect sounds very "Megaman X."

Genso Suikoden V ~ Genso New World Music Collection - Admiral of the Seas: I nominated this because it's rather eclectic and cool. Naoyuki Sato has a wide range and he shows it off well here. Despite all the different layers and effects, however, the melody retains a strong sense of the sea. It's like a modern shanty, really. The pace is strong, even intense in sections, and Sato injects a lot of variety; the song never becomes monotonous. All in all, an interesting, well-rounded piece.

Melody Of Legend ~ Chapter Of Dream - COZY featured in Zeus II : It's kind of hazy, in that placid, floating way. I tend to find that pleasing, and this is no exception to the rule. It's a tad bit on the fluffy side, and I've heard deeper material off the Melody of Legend series, but this is still nice. If it has one glaring flaw, it's that the piece drags on too much at the end.

Waku Waku 7 - Fight! Super Adventure Boy Rai (Rai Stage): I dunno, it's okay? I wasn't left with much of an impression, good or bad. Neutral is kind of anti-climactic but that's how it is here.

Wario Land 4 (Game Rip) - Sapphire Passage - Crescent Moon Village: This is just plain weird, no doubt. Parts of it are wildly inventive, yet the pacing seems to drag it down. I might've enjoyed it more had it gone for less of a lounge vibe and more of an upbeat, quirkin' tone. Overall it was okay but nothing to rave about.

www .frankklepacki .com - Zanthia's Funky Swamp: I've never been much on Frank Klepacki, as a lot of his work is monotonous ambience. It's perhaps a style into which he's been cubbyholed by the industry, since he's showing a lot more flexibility here. It's not the most breakout track I've heard lately but it's better than average.

The "Chocobo's Happy Christmas" clause contends that arranged material is acceptable on a case-by-case basis. That is, if the source material is well-known, then it stands to reason that the essential melody of the arrangement will also be familiar, even if the precise instrumentation has changed; an obscure arrangement of "One-Winged Angel" will always sound like One-Winged Angel in some way.

So I'd say it's fair to strike half the Vielen Dank album, based upon the general familiarity of its source material. As much as I secretly love the discovery of loopholes (I got a Megaman tune through!), sometimes there's just a line drawn in the sand, and Square-Enix is a pretty big line.

The other half, all the original work, sure. I've never heard it. Pick the best and send it forth.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
