The Napple Tale track is incomplete; the last third has been completely omitted.
I've uploaded the correct-length track to the Nominations folder. If someone could swap it in, that'd be great. Thanks. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
You know what? This week, this might just be the
BEST WEEK EVER. Seriously, I saved every single nomination that wasn't my own. Immortal 3 - Obsession 'Desert Run': There's a nice blend of old-school charm and modern synth at play. The bass is particularly strong but the sweep effects are equally good. The Immortal series has donated some good stuff to SotW. Lemmings 2 The Tribes (Amiga Game Rip) - Sports: Though similar in style to the first track, this piece stands on its own with a good melody and an interesting cadence. Napple Tale Vol. 2 Illustrated Guide to the Monsters - Wild Wind: Now and then, you find a track that is nothing less than pure magic. For me, "Wild Wind" is flawless. It's vibrant, joyful, enveloping, and very memorable - everything I look for in a track. This is Kanno at her absolute best. Shining Force III Premium Disc (Game Rip) - A Life of Harmony: This is probably the weakest track of the week, and that is quite impressive because this could've placed during other weeks. The melody and tone are very nice. The only element plaguing this piece is the poor recording quality; it sounds murkier than I believe it truly should. The Terminator (Sega CD Red Book Audio) - Destinationz Unknown: I'm generally not a fan of Tommy Tallarico (I also think he's a shameless egotist) but this caught me by surprise. It's a very well developed track and it's nice to hear some quality shredding. The background elements are also fantastic. Unlike other guitar pieces, this one doesn't overdo itself. The superfluous music box ending is just weird but it doesn't really hurt anything. Finally, a Tallarico piece worth keeping. The Wanderer - G-Comp: Jogeir Liljedahl makes some great mood music. Half folk, half trance, his compositions are quite tranquil and soothing. It's no wonder Bjorn Lynne likes him; they have similar approaches. I don't think G-Comp is the best track of the "The Wanderer" album but it's far from the worst. Waterworld (SNES Game Rip) - Diving: This one took its sweet time to get somewhere interesting but once it arrived, it was very impressive. I'm no fan of the SNES's limited sound capabilities but when someone can work around that and make a track as gorgeous and flowing as "Diving", it's worth applause. If I'd heard this elsewhere and been told it was an SNES gamerip, I'd have been rather skeptical. Ys III Wanderers from Ys (PC-Engine Red Book Audio) - Be Careful : Guitars & synth, about what I expect from the better Ys tracks. I like the urgent pacing and the way the rhythm guitar just chugs along with the bassline. The guitars are nicely balanced by the piano and drums, so none of it becomes tiresome. A very good track. 3 Points: Napple Tale Vol. 2 Illustrated Guide to the Monsters - Wild Wind 1 Point: The Terminator (Sega CD Red Book Audio) - Destinationz Unknown 1 Point: Immortal 3 - Obsession 'Desert Run' 1 Point: Waterworld (SNES Game Rip) - Diving I'm serious when I say that this is the best week we've had in ages, if ever. There were no weak tracks at all. Ideally, they should all place, as each one is deserving of a spot on the SotW page. Great nominating, folks! There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
I'd like a concensus on this track's eligibility. I think it's obscure despite appearances, but I'm just one person.
Album: Rockman Complete Works: Rockman 5: Blues' Trap!? (PS2 Gamerip) Composer: MARI Title: Title Screen Year: 2003 Additional Notes: This track is an exclusive arrangement of the title music from Mega Man 5 and was exclusively available on the Anniversary Collection. Players could opt to play through some of the games with alternate versions of the music in areas. "Title Screen" is one such arrangement. I also believe that my copy is somewhat mistagged and may need to be corrected before its respective week. This may push the boundaries a bit, true, but hear me out. When most people think of Megaman music, Anniversary Collections are not the first place they look. In fact, most people would be inclined to think that the music is identical because it's just all the NES games on one disc. With the smothering of Megaman, X, Zero, and .EXE titles already on the market, the Anniversary Collection was an easily overlooked drop in the bucket, sought out only by hardcore fans of the original games - not exactly an intuitive place for Capcom to hide new music. So yay or nay? This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]()

Awww, Silver. So close. Definitely not bad but, in any other week, "Wild Wind" could've struck gold. A bit of bad timing that my nomination and all the others came up against the mother of all SNES tracks. I can't argue that "Diving" is undeserving - I mean, even I gave it points and I almost always dislike SNES material - so good job, Draconis.
And Epsilon, you shouldn't feel too poorly. This week was fantastic and I saved the Lemmings track for my own future enjoyment. If this week hadn't been so crammed full of awesome, that Lemmings track would've placed, I'm sure. Far worse has earned Bronze and Silver in the past. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
