We have Shamrock Shakes at my local McDonald's, just north of Buffalo, NY, here. I purchased one this past Thursday. There's a strong Irish constituency in my town and it'd be sacrilege to take away our Shamrock Shakes.
The McDonald's doesn't advertise them; there's no signs up or anything. But for the two weeks prior to St. Patrick's Day, if you ask, they have them.
I've been drinking them for years, and they're really one of the only reasons I ever go to McDonald's (the $1 Hot & Spicy McChicken is the other). Shamrock Shakes used to be a reward for good behavior when I was young and I still treat it like a reward for working all day in March.
What gets me is that I'm not 100% sure what a Shamrock Shake tastes like. It's sorta minty, but not. It's sorta like pistachio, but not. I guess if I had to describe the flavor of a Shamrock Shake to someone who'd never tried one, I'd describe the flavor as "green". I think that if green had a distinct flavor, that's what it would be: a Shamrock Shake.
It's kinda like how the food industry hit the nail on the head with "oranges". There's just no better way to describe those things.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
