I got very close to the end. I was surprisingly good at Battletoads, due to a perfectionist streak. To this day, I can totally slam through the speeder bike level on the first or second try. After doing it so many times, it's forever memorized in my brain; the motions are instinctual now.

Near the end, there's a level where you have to maneuver through some pipes while avoiding things like pirhannas and giant gears that chase you, a la Indiana Jones, and crush you if you're too slow. The sentinel droids in that level were ruthless, not to mention the spikes and the boobytraps in the water sections.

I believe there were 12 levels in total. I think this was level 11. At that point, having a lifebar was a futile gesture since nearly everything resulted in an insta-kill.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
