I would read around on the http://www.kvraudio.com/ forums for a good interface. It depends whether or not you want hardware/software effects as to what type of interface would be good. Generally firewire is seen as better than USB at this point. And yes, all you should need is the external device for sound, not an additional internal soundcard.
